I like your AU idea. I know that what happened was very true to who Tony had become. But that fucked up move with Rogers just makes it harder to accept. The guy spreads destruction, lies and about kills Tony for Bucky -- then just bails on his bud and trots off to rewrite history for his happy-ever-after, everyone else be damned. the way they twisted Steve's character I can see that selfishness but Peggy would totally kick his ass before going along with it.
At least I got my scene where Tony gets to rub faces into "I told you so."
The Tony and Peter relationship breaks my heart. I know it will play into FfH. I've managed to avoid spoilers simply because I did get spoiled for Endgame via the IMDB news feed on the app. Forced me to go see it on Sunday morn of opening weekend.
Yes! MCU tells when it comes to emotional content and generally does it poorly. I could wrap my head around Scarlet Witch a bit better if they actually worked up some characterization beyond just telling us this is how it is. Perhaps the series will put some work into that.
When the directors and the writers can't even agree on what "really happened" in the movie, I think fans are fully entitled to interpret it how they want. Even more than the usual fanfic methods.
I think TPTB were looking for a way to force Steve out of action, and felt he "deserved" his happily-ever-after with Peggy. They didn't stop to think of the ripple effect that choice would have. He knows Bucky is alive and brainwashed, and does nothing, among other things. The man who broke the law left, right, and center to save Bucky allowed that to continue?
While watching the movie, I thought what they'd go for is Peggy would see Steve during their time travel jaunt. Probably chastise him for being as stealthy as a bull in china shop. She'd already be happily married with kids, but also thrilled to see that Steve does (eventually) emerge from the ice. A nice little last dance, and then she'd send him off on his mission. He couldn't tell her about Hydra growing inside SHIELD, and once they caught up again, old!Peggy couldn't tell him about his upcoming time travel jaunt.
I think I was more pushed to see Endgame quickly because there are spoilers and then there are SPOILERS. I didn't feel as much of a push with the latest Spider-man, though I do want to see it.
My one hope for the series is they do let the characters develop more. It's all action-action-action in the movies, so character moments don't get much time. They has the old series acknowledge movie events, but without much depth because they didn't always know when shows would be shown versus when movies would be released.
They're saying the Disney+ ones will be canon and have full control of when things are released. But will that mean that if you want to fully understand what's happening in the movies, you have to watch the series too? I could watch A:AoU and think, "Oh, that's the secret project Coulson was working on in the series!" when the old-school helicarrier showed up to save the day, but it didn't make a difference to the plot if you didn't know that. If they shunt all character stuff to the series but leave the results in place for the movies, it's going to get super confusing.

The returning the stones back to where they found them, except in their "natural" state, started bugging me while I was watching in the theater.
Would they even have the ability to remake the Tesseract, staff, orb, etc.? The only one they could return without much effort would be the time stone, which was simply returned to The Ancient One, who had freely given it to Bruce in the first place.

I had to stop 50 seconds in to get Brilliant Husband and the Progeny to watch with me. So wrong, and yet so right.
