Broadchurch

I mysteriously was able to watch this, despite BBC America not airing it until this fall (jerks). No spoilers, but in style it reminded me of The Killing, or rather Forbrydelsen, the original Danish show, not the AMC redo. A child is killed, and anyone in the community could be the killer, and the community is tearing itself apart by speculating and raking mud about each other as secrets are revealed.

Lots of interesting actors in it, including David Tennant and Arthur Darvill from Doctor Who, and Andrew Buchan, who I'd watched recently in Garrow's Law, but almost didn't recognize him in this. I don't recall seeing lead actress Olivia Colman before, but she does a great turn as a detective dealing with a new boss from outside the area when she thought she was going to get the job. She's a local and knows everyone involved, and hates that she becomes more cynical about her community members as the case progresses.

There's a whole kettle of red herrings, and I did not peg the killer until it was confession time. I'd actually thought they'd go with another person altogether, so it was nice to have a surprise, even though it was still gut wrenching. If you haven't already seen it, definitely be on the lookout for it if you like angsty shows.
