so i just got in after a night of bright eyes and then a little party type get together at my friend's place.
mica was unable to be my date to bright eyes due to work, but worry not, she was there in spirit. for those of you who dont know, she actually introduced me to the majority of the saddle-creek bands i now adore with all that i am, as well as murder by death. so i owe a lot of what i am, musically and otherwise, to my mica. she's my number one donut. i know you dont know what that means, unless youre like one of the 4 people that are super-cool.... but i guess thats half of the fun.
the set up tonight was : acoustic guitar, 2 electrics, manolin, pedal steel (with occasional Ebo), bass, drums, aux. percussion, trombone, trumpet, electric piano and elec organ. including conor there were 6(?) musicians up there. it was great.. seriously, but it didnt even compare to the shows at old town.... seriously. but it was my first time at the abbey pub, but i liked it.
he played a few new tracks, on a spindle, bowl of oranges, lover i dont, method acting, soon you will be leaving your man, joy to the world, the city has sex, and a few others that i cant think of at the moment because im about to pass out.. im dead.
oh, the opening bands:
tilly and the whale - despite their name, they amazed me. no joke. they had a male guitarist who sings, two girl singers, one who plays random bells and whatnot, and the other just sings. then there was a guy keyboardist, and best of all - instead of percussion, they had this girl that tapdanced the beat. it was brilliant. seriously. i reallllly enjoyed their set. i think they girl that just sang is the same chick from Park Ave, but im not sure.
after them was Adam Green- one of the most unimpressive sets ive ever seen. it was like a bland version of the Strokes on a ton of valium. i couldnt have disliked it more. ok... maybe thats a bit harsh, but i didnt like it... and thats a fact.
then was bright eyes and it was grand.
for an encore, they played what i think was a park ave song with neely(?) from tilly/park ave(?) and others, with conor on drums... which makes sense since he played drums in park ave. to my knowledge. after that song, he played a song which i cant place, but i think i may have heard it before, then he played one last song, which i totally forgot.
then i left.
and its time for sleep.
mica, i missed you tonight. i wasnt the same without you. next time.... next time.
in other news, i was given a letter than erin wrote me... so that was interesting. we shall see, i suppose
