With NO HANNAH!
A part of me will miss the Gravedigger plot. It was a nice little arc that, you know, just when you think you've heard the last of it, here it is again. I think they knew it was a good storyline, which was why they ended it, but at the same time they didn't. The Gravedigger won't be back any time soon, but now her killer is on the loose, which was a good way to extend it.
The side plot with Sweets was... well, I bought it. I think he was the one person on the team (interns aside) who hadn't really let the Gravedigger "get" to him before. He'd never really been her victim. I mean, one could argue that Angela hadn't either, but... I think she's close enough to Hodgins and Bones that she would have some internal issues about what happened with them. Anyway. I like that Sweets showed his vulnerability. I like that they zeroed in on some things that would very likely be bothering him following his conversation with the Gravedigger and the events of her death. "Am I the weak link? Was that bullet meant for me because someone knew that if I took the stand, she'd win her appeal and go free?" And it was classic PTSD I think, but it was nice to see Sweets be vulnerable, despite all his knowledge about how the brain works.
Also, Hodgins. I always love Hodgins. He doesn't do much in this episode, but I like that they use him as the vessel to carry the, "Is it OK to be happy about the Gravedigger getting her head blown off?" question. Someone had to ask it, and he's a logical choice.
I also love Max, so it was nice to see him come back. It was nice to see the little bits of information drop in that said it was possible he was the killer... though I sort of wish they'd drawn that out a little more, made it more suspenseful, more believable that Max might have done it. That tension would've been a nice touch, I think.
And the end... oh, the end. Seely! You dolt! You clearly still have feelings for her! Argh.
I guess my only complaint about this episode at all was - FFS WHY HAVEN'T YOU BEEN DOING THIS KIND OF AWESOME STUFF ALL SEASON? And that it could have, you know, been drawn out into a two-part episode, or something, with more tension and more stress and more with Max and just... more more more like this!
