We Had a pretty busy weekend. Saturday morning I woke the kids up at 7am to head to the local grocery store for their annual egg hunt. Jamie's age group was going first and it started at 7:30am. He had so much fun and this was his first year of really understanding how it works. He did great, finding over 100 plastic eggs! (which of course were all filled with candy) Haley's age group went next at 8:00am. She also did well, finding 40 something eggs then Jesse's group finished it up starting at 8:30am. I don't remember how many he found. They had fun, I couldn't wait to get back home and back to sleep. Spending an hour and 1/2 in the grocery store is not exactly my idea of fun. However, their eggs do save as money on Easter day as we reuse them for our own traditional egg hunt in the yard.
I was supposed to work Saturday night (never thought to request it off) but managed to get another driver to work for me, which was a big help as I still had a ton of stuff to do to get ready for Easter. Some of which included, starting the cooking, coloring eggs, and a last minute trip to Walmart at 11:30pm. I wasn't the only one who had the Walmart idea, the store was jammed with people, didn't get out of there until almost 1am. Guess I thought that the $200.00 dollars I had already spent on basket stuff wasn't enough. Easter seems to be turning into a mini xmas around here. Bunch of candy, Jesse's $50.00 video game, $25.00 on some pretty cool bubble stuff (think that was more for me then them) $15.00 on a Barbie Fruitopia doll for Haley, and a bunch of other little things. They got a little extra in their baskets as a reward for getting really good report cards on friday, Jess pulled his grades back up to honor roll and haley did really well also, however she doesn't get letter grades yet.
Jess and Haley woke us up at 7am today to ask if they could go open their baskets. I told them they had to wait for Jamie to wake up, at 7:06 they were back in saying okay hes awake (yet they both swear they didn't wake him up)Woke up, watched them open their baskets, read their note from the bunny, then do their inside the house egg hunt. The bunny told them that the plastic eggs were for only Jamie to find, they could hunt only for the chocolate ones and hard boiled. Did they hunt, went back to sleep until my mother called at 10am and Jes told her I was sleeping. Shey says "WHAT??, sleeping? tell her to wake up and start the sauce and meatballs" oops, my bad. Jumped out of bed and immediately starting cooking, as they both take a few hours to cook and was planning on a 1-130pm dinner. About 10:30am my mom and brother got here, followed by the rest of the gang at about 10:45. 16 of us total. 8 kids, 8 adults. The crowd was, Me, Jimmy, Jes, Haley, Jamie, Mom, Ug (my brother Bobbys nickname from me), 2 sister in laws, 1 brother in law, Sister in laws friend, his son and 4 nieces and nephews. I finished up the cooking while they all had a card game. Dinner was finally ready at 2:30, which consisted of, Ham, mashed tators, corn, lasagna, meatballs, salad. While the stuffed celery and deviled eggs were out through out the day.
After dinner was our traditional egg hunt, which the kids both love and dread all in one! Why dread you may ask yourself, well in our house one never knows what one will find inside of their hunted eggs! Todays goodies included, "The golden egg" which was a candy egg floating (or possibly sinking) in water. Whoever found that one got a dollar. My nieces pants were pretty wet after opening 2 eggs filled with water until she got smart and started holding them to the side of her to do it. Jes opened one up that was filled with dirt and all the rest were either empty or had candy in it. This year we went easy on them as there were 2 more kids then usual. 2 yrs ago, their goodies included, mashed potatos, corn, broccoli, pieces of meatballs, paint balls, bottle caps, olives, salad, money and candy. What started out as a joke a few years back has become the egg hunt traditions that they now expect to find anything and everything. We did a separate hunt in my neighbors yard with Jamie and his cousin Matthew as they are both only 3 and wanted to make it easy for them. After they hunt they all climb onto the trampoline and open their eggs. It's hysterical to watch the looks and hear their reactions. Though usually it's the grown ups laughing and them complaining and in some cases crying. Now some may think that's mean, but it's all in fun and only 1 has cried over it, Haley, until she ended up with money.
It's been a fun day, but now I'm beat and more then ready for bed.
HOPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!
