So, here are my thoughts on this Super Bowl:
This was definetly not a well-played game, and it kinda left me and my brother scratching our heads...
First of all, that Ben Roethlisberger touchdown should NOT have counted. Hey, I was rooting for the Steelers, but I know that was a bad call. The ball has to at least TOUCH the goal line to be called a TD, and he didn't even get the ball TO the goal line, so no TD. Bad, bad call by the refs.
Both teams did not play NEARLY as well as they had in getting to this game. Roethlisberger was off-target all night, and Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander, while he gained almost 100 yards rushing, did not make the big plays that earned him the MVP award during the regular season. The Seahawks were really in control for most of this game, especially the first half. But, they were undone by poor clock management (I'll get into that in a bit), and the lack of a killer instinct by not finishing a lot of their drives.
The Steelers, on the other hand, struggled mightly offensively. They only had 1 good, concerted drive that resulted in the false TD. The Steelers really won this game by timely big plays, and their defense making equally big contributions when it mattered the most.
At the end of each half, it looked like the Seahawks just came apart. As halftime approached, they had major problems with time management and deciding on what play to run. Of course, the fact that the Steelers oddly called a timeout with 13 seconds to go was their only saving grace there.
Then, at the end of the game, they TOTALLY just blew it. Down by 11 with about 1:30 to go, it was possible they could tie the game. They had to go quickly down the field, kick a field goal, recover the ensuing onside kick, march right back down the field, score a touchdown, AND THEN convert the 2-pointer. Unlikely, yes, but possible, if EVERYTHING was done right, and they catching some breaks wouldnt've hurt.
What did the Seahawks do, then? Just about everything they should NOT have. Instead of working the sidelines and conserving time, they kept throwing the ball down the middle of the field. Oh, they were moving the ball, but they were wasting precious time in doing it. And, in the ultimate show of clueless-ness, Seahawks QB Matt Hasselebeck made frantic motions of spiking the ball to stop the clock... on 4th down!!! That just showed me that the Seahawks, and Hasselbeck in particular, just lost control of that game in the 4th quarter.
Finally, as far as I'm concerned, Bud Light easily won the commercial war. Beer commercials are usually stupid, but a few of these ones were actually hilarious. I think my favorite was the "Magical Fridge" one. CareerBuilder.com took a pretty distant second. Burger King... well, that one was just retarded, so it takes dead last in my book.
Anybody who watched the game/commercials.... any thoughts??
