i know this isn't the most terribly auspicious thing to say, but i lost my grandma last year and so this particular post of yours has a lot of meaning for me. i'm glad that someone else out there cherishes their grandparents and knows that they will miss them when the time comes. that bit when you said that you're sure you will cry for days and not get over it for months, that really resonated with me because that's precisely what happened to me - i cried for days, i still cry about it sometimes, and i think that means i haven't got over it yet despite it being over a year ago.
i had similar goals as yours before my grandma passed, and i'm glad that i got to fulfill them so i don't have regrets now. if your dialect isn't so strong you might wanna consider tape recording or video recording your grandma when you talk to her about her history so that you can review it later and try to figure out what she's saying. it's also good like as a keepsake... though i've never watched the video i took of my ahma, to be honest, because it's just too painful. but i'm still glad i did it anyway.
