Winter Onset

Oct 06, 2011 19:55

I'm sitting at the bus stop on the way to work. Last night it was cold enough in my condo to make me shiver. Today is the first day of the season that I have my winter jacket on. On the fellow bus commuters around me, there is a similar sentiment of heavier clothing.

Steve Jobs died yesterday. I say this as I type on my Macbook Pro, with its bright glass display and aluminum casing. I mentioned to Emily last night before a LoL game that I wasn't ready for Steve Jobs to die--I mean, Mister Rogers, I can understand. He was an adult and I was a child, and it makes sense in the passage of time for our elders to pass away as we move out of childhood. But here was a man who was affecting my life right now, every day. Not only in the products I purchase, but the marketplace that surrounds us, and the products we make.

It's as if there was an undercurrent of slow dialogue which was cut off. It's Firefly all over again, except that Firefly never had a bad episode. Somehow there is an injustice to this.

Who knows what the future holds--except for a few months of rain and cold, no doubt.
