So, compulsive listmaker that I am, I’ve been messing around with the 101 Things in 1001 Days meme that several of my friends have taken up. So far, I have not succeeded in coming up with a list of 101 things, despite the fact that I could probably do so just out of unfinished needlework projects. I think I may be missing the idea in some ways…I’m trying to come up with Things I Really Want Done, and I keep sliding into Things I’m Pretty Sure I’m Going to Be Doing Anyway. Does that count? (I can see this very quickly sliding into making the list after the fact, which I’m sure is Not the Point at all.)
The other thing that’s become obvious is that 1001 days is a really freaking long time. I’ve got “New dress for 12th Night” down as #38, #45, and #49. I’m not sure I could deal with having that much of my life nailed down, even if it was possible for me to do it. I mean, less than 1001 days ago, we were happily renting a little house in Fullerton and not participating with any geographical SCA unit: now we own a decrepit bungalow in Long Beach (accounting for a full third of my list as it currently stands, and we haven’t even got to the air-dreaming parts) and we’re Baron and Baroness of Lyondemere. My personal history does not inspire much confidence in a predictable future.
And what do you do with deadlines? (I think maybe you’re not supposed to have any, except the 1001 days, but how plausible in my life.) I’m already missing one, being as there isn’t going to be a new dress for Saturday. Fudged that by changing it to “Make a dress of the pink brocade”. So I’ll be down one item if I end up making the pink brocade dress for 12th Night. (I can suddenly see the last third of the list ending up to be “Make a dress of the ”.
