It's just a vacant three-by-four

Finished my first day at my new job! I think it went really well! The day sped by, which is a good thing. My trainer was really knowledgeable and able to answer all of my questions. I like to ask a lot of them, haha. I'm one of those people who wants to know why things are done a certain way, how what others do affects my job, and how my job affects others. She seemed to like that I kept asking questions, and was hapy to answer them. I work with a group of 8 (including me and my trainer) doing data entry, for the most part. The basic schedule is doing keying until 3pm, then verifying from 3-4/4:30. After that we validate, which should only take 3 minutes tops, since it is system automated. If something bugs in that part it's pretty much just because a file wasn't quite labeled correctly. Today I learned the basics of inputting, and even some troubleshooting. When I finished inputting my work for the day, I learned how to verify. We always verify someone else's work (there is a rotating schedule), and it is as easy as making sure they typed everything in properly. If they didn't there is a whole long process to cancel the original entry and re-key it. I was showed how to do one and thankfully was given a helpful guide on how to do it if I find one. The trainer had a bunch of super awesome step-by-step sheets and some helpful Excel sheets for different issues. Finally, she showed me how to validate, which we do once our person has finished verifying all of our work for the day. Basically, we put all of the PDFs we've been working on into the system. We have to name them all in a certain way and the system automatically connects everything and then emails us an Excel sheet for reference. It's really nifty! I learned some cool PDF tricks today, too. Apparently I did really well. My trainer said she was really proud of me, and our boss gave me kudos. I mean, it wasn't too difficult yet, but they did fire the last person after just a week for whatever reason. So I guess data entry is not for everyone. My trainer said that tomorrow she is going to teach me the difficult part of the job. From what my coworkers have told me, it really doesn't get much more difficult than what I did today, it is just a matter of being able to find missing information and navigate the software that we use. I took a ton of notes, and I plan to take even more tomorrow on the new procedures. I feel pretty confident that I will have a pretty solid handle on the vast majority of the job by Friday.

Anyway, I got all of an hour and a half of sleep last night, thanks to the stress of the weekend (massive horrible story that I don't want to relive, so I won't post about it), so I have a raging tired headache. I think I will call it an early night tonight. I just wanted to post and say I made it through my first day with flying colors! Looking forward to tomorrow!
