An arguement often used against euthanasia is that there are a very small amount of cases... where someone is thought to be fatally ill and recovers, or one does not know that a miracle might happen that then saves the persons life... But who has the right to make the judgement in such a case? Surely its the person who has to live with the condition, and suffer. I guess the question around policing it has to do with the fact that there will be people who come along and say they helped someone to die because that person wanted it (when really, they didnt). Because as a race, we tend to murder and do horrible things to one another. I believe in euthanasia, as I believe that all women should have access to safe abortion. For me, its about a right to live, a right to die, and a right to a quality of life. There was a case awhile back.. of a woman who lived in an almost vegetative state, and her husband decided she was better off dead (despite the fact that her mother was seeing improvements and was the one caring for her)... I cant remember her name, but I do believe there was money involved for the husband on her death. These things are what make it so hard for other people truelly seeking a humane end.
Oh... and good on Chantel for doing it anyway (autopsy showed it wasnt natural causes) and lets hope if she had help it doesnt come to light for that person.
