You're so brave to choose to take care of animals that have such a short life span. To be so constantly confronted with death, and yet still keep taking in more rats, knowing they're going to leave you in just a short time, takes a very strong internal constitution, and a great deal of love. I'm looking at Gizmo passing away in probably five years or less, and I don't know how I could possibly get another dog after her. I'm not as brave as you.
It's easy to make mistakes that hurt others, no matter how hard we might try not to. We can't always think of everything, and that's okay, because we're only human. Even if Nicky did get into one of the ant baits, and that's what prompted him passing away, he wouldn't blame it on you. He knows you did the best you could. He loves you and he'll be waiting for you, with all of your other rat babies.
