I want to meet this woman

A glut of museums and libraries is indicative of a culture sick in its daily life. But the remedy is worse than the sickness, for those are the very worst places for memories. Having failed to preserve a cultural genre, society delegates to such places the responsibility for preserving its past masterpieces. These come to resemble the fetishes of dead magicians in ethnographic museums, reduced to handfuls of dusty feathers or faded, painted masks, now that men have forgotten how their ancestors used to make the gods come to them. The "artists" who copy them will pass on nothing but the sickness of death and the plague of oblivion.
