(Okay mods I hope you don't mind this, if you do then take it down. I'm just trying to spread the awareness of this as far as possible. This ends on Monday, so if it could stay up until then I would be so appreciative!)
Have you ever heard of the Harry Potter Alliance? Well, it's this amazing charity that uses Harry Potter as a means to help people relate to current world issues. It's basically like a Dumbledore's Army for the real world.
~After Haiti, the HPA and the Nerdfighters raised enough money (over $123,000) to send five planes full of supplies to help those hurt in the disaster!
~Every March they have a book drive and have donated over 55,000 books to Rwanda, the Mississippi Delta and to local communities worldwide!
~On election years they sign up new voters at Wrock concerts and in 2008 they registered over 900 first time voters!
~Increase Mass Equality’s calls to Maine voters to protect marriage equality by over 1200% in one day with over 3500 calls!
And RIGHT NOW they are competing to win $250,000. It take 30 seconds to vote at
here and we can do SO MUCH GOOD with the money.
After you go
here you...
1. Click “Get started to vote” (the second green button, top right)
2. Allow Access and then click “Like”
3. Click “Vote now” (green button, top right)
And you're done! I know it sounds complicated, but I swear it's not! You don't have to worry about security, Chase as a really good privacy policy and the HPA doesn't get any of your information. Where will that money go? Find out
here! And more about the Harry Potter Alliance
here.
"The contest ends on Monday, July 13th at 12:00 am EST. The Harry Potter Alliance is currently in first place, but other organizations are catching up fast and unless you help, we will not remain in first place for long. This is your chance to be a part of real change, and voting is a free and easy way to show your support for literacy, LGBT rights, and the power of fan activism. With this funding, the Harry Potter Alliance will be able to expand its reach exponentially, donate thousands more books to children who desperately need them, and continue to work to support LGBT rights."
And if you don't have a Facebook, or don't want to vote, will you at least pass the link on to those you think might vote?
(x-posted like whoa, sorry for the spam to your flists...)
