Lily couldn’t remember the first time they’d held hands, she and Teddy, but she did remember the first time her heart had skipped a beat, as her hand had touched Teddy’s bigger, slightly calloused one. She’d been twelve, at the time.
The second time they’d kissed was on Platform 9-3/4. He’d kissed her on the cheek, as a sister, and whispered a silent ‘good luck, Lily’ in her ears. She had hoped no one had noticed the deep blush that spread across her cheeks.
James had confronted her about her obvious feelings for Teddy three times, before Lily had finally admitted it, shouting the hopeless words at James and feeling like a stupid little girl with a stupid crush. James had held her, then, giving his silent support and Lily’s heart had swelled up with love and happiness; someone knew and didn’t detest her for these feelings she had.
The fourth time Lily had shared a desert with Teddy had been extremely different from the other times; they were both more aware of the attraction, the tension, between them. Lily had felt mortified at her shameless flirting, as she lay under her duvet hours later, blushing like never before.
Lily had tried on five dresses, each with a different design and colour, each showing her attributes in different ways, before she decided on the fifth dress. This was her first date with Teddy, and she wanted to look stunning.
Teddy had invited her into his flat on their sixth date. She’d been there before as Lily, James’ sister, but this time she was Teddy’s girlfriend, and that made the whole difference. The both of them had snuggled together on the couch, eating popcorn and watching an old, boring Muggle movie.
Seven weeks later, Lily was sure she’d never felt happier.

Words: 300 words
Rating: PG-13
Lily has six, tiny freckles scattered on her left shoulder. They don’t form any recognizable shape; they’re just there, unexplainably decorative.
Teddy first notices them on Molly’s wedding. Lily’s wearing a strapless, electric-blue dress, which combined with her auburn hair, makes her stand out from the rest of her red-haired relatives.
She’s twenty-one years old, indisputably beautiful, and she dances the whole night with him until they can no longer walk.
Teddy remembers the indignant look on her face when he suggests that she should stand on his feet like she used to years ago.
“I’m not a little girl anymore, Teddy,” she says, and suddenly she’s everywhere, wrapped around him.
Teddy remembers noticing how her ivory skin gleams on the candlelight, how good she smells, how right it feels to hold her.
Then he notices the six enticing freckles on her bare shoulder, and everything changes. His hands itch to count the freckles; to discover where else she has others.
He doesn’t really know what’s wrong with him, to think about Lily like that, when he’d never looked at her with desire before. But she invades his thoughts uninvited, and Teddy fells like he’s coming undone, brought to his knees by those unforgettable six freckles on Lily’s shoulder.
Teddy can tell Victoire knows his mind is elsewhere, and he wants to make it right, for he does love her. Victoire means home and Teddy’s not quite ready to give up on that yet.
But the memory of Lily’s six freckles haunts and taunts him.
Teddy frantically counts the days until this fascination goes away so that he can feel normal again.
Lily shows up at his place by the twenty-seventh day and kisses him, hard.
All numbers, with the exception of those six freckles of hers, stop making sense.

They’re just numbers, he thinks, just symbols and signs we give meaning to. They don’t mean anything.
Twenty-eight;
The number of years Teddy has been on this Earth, stumbling forwards and onwards with no map to guide the way.
Three;
The number of true relationships his past holds. Girls with hair straight and blonde and eyes clear and bright and blue.
Two;
The number of people who should be here with him now. Two omnipresent ghosts that hover at the fringes of his existence, never stepping closer or moving backwards but always, always smiling so sadly.
*
A fan of red hair against a crisp white pillow. Skin tanned and dotted with a wash of freckles. It’s like looking through a window pane into someone else’s life; he wants, oh how badly he wants, to reach forwards and grasp this image, capture it, save it and store it but he knows he can’t. He shouldn’t be here. He knows this.
But her eyes are so brown and bold and vibrant; shining with answers only he knows the questions to. Her laugh so loud and free and long and her mouth so sweet and tinged with pink. Just for one moment, one second suspended in time, he wants to touch her, feel the softness of her skin beneath the tips of his fingers and smile.
She’s his godfather’s daughter - the ultimate betrayal - but as she lays so still, her breath coming in gentle puffs as her eyelashes flutter, he knows he can’t give her up.
And he thinks; maybe numbers do have meaning, and smiles, maybe we just have to find it.
After all; he’s no longer stumbling and falling as he navigates his way because he has changed, and no matter how many people were there, he only needed -
One.

As Lily stood in awe on platform 9 ¾’s, she recalled her first vivid memory of Teddy Lupin. She’d been just six years old and been on this very platform.
The family had all gathered in numbers to see their Teddy off on his first year at Hogwarts. His hair had been a bright shade of Aqua because poor Teddy had been so nervous that day. Only Harry his godfather had been able to put him at ease.
Lily remembered her and her brothers counting down the days in between Teddy’s owls. His letters were filled with stories of Hogwarts magic. He spoke often of friendship with their cousin Victoire although she was in Ravenclaw and he Gryffindor.
At first Teddy’s letters were a novelty of tales but soon they became much more to Lily Potter. With every letter and visit from dear Teddy, her heart grew fonder for him. The number of stolen parchments under her bed grew exponentially and she reread Teddy’s words till she’d memorized them.
Lately, Teddy’s letters were more and more about Victoire and young Lily’s hopes were dashed . How could she ever compete with a dashing part Veela cousin. Especially when Teddy only saw her as the sisterly type. He still played a number of silly pranks on her and continually tugged her Auburn braids. No… Teddy still thought of her as a little girl.
Lily hoped today would be different , as she stood counting down the seconds when they would board the Hogwarts Express. For this year Lily was eleven and would be joining her beloved Teddy at school. Eleven was a most magical number, for this was the year when Lily would confront Teddy. She would make him see her as a woman. A woman terribly in love with him…

Words: 300
Rating: G
Right behind their house in Godric’s Hollow in the center of a flowery meadow stands a White Willow Tree, planted by Harry Potter at the birth of his first and only daughter.
It’s the 23rd August 2015 as Lily Luna Potter falls of that tree and is caught by Ted Remus Lupin. She falls for him, although she doesn’t know that it is love what she is feeling, until a few years have past and the Willow Tree has grown so big that the tearful branches are strong enough to hold her.
On the 12th July 2025 rain was trashing to the ground and the squally wind hisses through the heavy leaves of the Willow Tree, where Lily stands close to Teddy, who just notices the small heart, which is burnt into the white bark. He chuckles and asks her with whom she is in love.
2 foot away of the Willow Tree Lily bends so close to Teddy, they nearly kiss, although they never will. Teddy jumps through the drooping branches, and he is wet to the skin in a few seconds. 10 steps away of Lily he looks back once more, behind him the grey sky is flecked with yellow as the thunder roars and drowns the 3 words Lily can only whisper.
2 weeks later, 16 foot away of their Willow Tree, Teddy Lupin melts to the ground and pulls out a ring…
It’s the 23rd August 2025 as Teddy Lupin breaks Lily Potters heart, because he stands right in front of her Willow Tree and says ‘Yes’ to Victoire Weasley.
Right behind that house in Godric’s Hollow in the center of a flowery meadow stands a Weeping Willow Tree, misused by Harry Potter as the tomb of his first and only daughter, who never turned 18.

Words: 300

There are certain things that Lily, age 18, does not anticipate.
She does not anticipate moving into her first flat and having the pipes suddenly burst in the room above. She does not anticipate having water flood into her flat. She does not anticipate showing up on Teddy’s doorstep, boxes in hand, water forming a puddle at her feet; asking if she could stay for a couple nights. She does not anticipate that he will say yes.
But he does.
-
She does not anticipate that a few nights will turn into a few weeks which will turn into a few months and finally turns into Teddy clearing out the extra room to put her things in; telling her she might as well stay there permanently, he likes the company.
-
She does not anticipate that Lily, age 20, the girl who partied her way through Hogwarts, will spend most of her time studying, pouring over words like scrofungulus and spattergroi. She does not anticipate that Teddy will stay up with her the nights before big exams, teasing her and making her laugh in spite of the nausea polling in the pit of her stomach.
But he does.
-
Nor does Lily, age 22, anticipate that the little brown eyed girl down the street will fall in love with Teddy one summer, with his color changing hair and cocky grin. She doesn’t anticipate teasing him about it afterwards for days until he finally leans over and kisses her to shut her up and she can’t complain or tease at all because she can’t catch her breath.
But he does
-
She does not anticipate that Lily, age 23, will fall in love with Teddy and she does not anticipate that Lily, age 25, will become Lily Lupin.
But she does.
