Title: For An Interview
Words: 401

Warnings: stereotyped Malfoy

“Why apply to Borgin and Burkes? It’s a good place to start as a Curse Breaker. Question. Why are you so interested?” Scorpius and Victoire had met near the corner of Knockturn and Diagon Alleys. Her father had told her to seek him out, bring him to Gringotts for an interview.

“Well, I can’t always get what I want, but if I don’t care about how it happens, I’ll get what I need.” Scorpius had the same Malfoy drawl and hair, the same cold, grey eyes. Victoire regarded him curiously. “That’s an interesting way to phrase no-holds-barred ambition,” she said.

He gazed at her. How could a Weasley be so beautiful? She was a quarter Veela, daughter to that Floo de la Coup or whatever her name was. She was a mite too old for him, but he felt like ravaging her. Scorpius broke leaves off bushes as they wound their way out of Knockturn Alley, apparently without conscious thought.

“My Dad says to help you, that you need it, because you would make a good Curse Breaker, but I think you would rather create dark curses yourself...”

“Because I’m a Malfoy?” Scorpius asked, eyebrows raised.

“And because that excuses everything?” Victoire looked puzzled and amused all at once.

“Exactly!” Scorpius said calmly, as if he had this conversation rehearsed. He had. He’d been plotting time alone with the Victoire of legend. Now he had it, false bravado rang empty and all that was left was a vulnerable longing. He turned away from her, unable to have his grey eyes meet her startlingly blue ones.

“If there’s no want, there’s no need, and I won’t get either. Borgin and Burkes have my references, but I’d never trust to work with Goblins...” Scorpius shuddered, trying to change the subject.

“You’d be working with Bill, my Dad. I must get back to Teddy,” Victoire told Scorpius. “Go to Gringotts, and you just might find you get what you need.” She saw him up the Alley and waved at him from the bottom step of his future employers.

“A sacrifice must always be made, working with goblins” Scorpius muttered to himself as he climbed the steps to Gringotts. He looked longingly at the silvery hair and beautiful features of Victoire. “Want and need are one in the same thing,” he muttered. He disappeared through the white marble doors, posture erect, certain of his future.

Scorpius is seventeen and bloody sick of Hogwarts. There's nothing wrong with it really. It's just that he's been here for six years and he's just ready to be done with it. He's learned, now he wants to go live on his own. But the wizarding world seems to think that he's needs to attend a seventh year at Hogwarts, so here he is. It's December and Christmas break is soon, which is cool, but he'll still have to come back once it's over.

Scorpius knows he about ten times better looking than his father ever was, probably the reason he gets just about any girl he wants. He's made out with Rose Weasley in the kitchen, Lily Potter under the whomping willow, and even Professor Chang had kissed him behind the curtains at Professor Slughorn's Christmas party last week. She hadn't been a very well kisser though.

"Hey, Scorp," Vernon Dursley called, catching up to Scorpius - Harry Potter's cousin's youngest and only magical son. Vernon was a bit of a prize that Scorpius had found himself. A notable friend, as if being a Malfoy wasn't notable enough.

"Hey, Vern," Scorpius replied in a bored tone. Vernon dove right in to conversation, telling Scorpius all about the Potions lesson he’d just gotten out of; Scorpius had skipped again. “Hey, Vern?” Scorpius interrupted his friend.

“Yea?” he replied, not even noticing how Scorpius had cut him short.

“Think your uncle’d let me stay at your place over break?” he asked a bit quickly. Vernon looked dubious.

“Why?”

“Want to see a few girls in the Weasley family; your lot spends Christmas with them, yea?” Scorpius was after one Weasley; Victoire. Scorpius wanted someone easy to coax into a dark corner, a susceptible girl, one that wouldn’t object to him. He knew himself better than that. Scorpius knew he needed a girl who was just like him, someone who’d keep him in line and not be afraid to object or do things the way she wanted them.

“Sure, sounds fine. I’ll write him tonight,” Vernon smiled. Scorpius smiled back thankfully.

-!-

“Scorpius!” Harry greeted kindly - no, he did not know about Scorpius and Lily, or Scorpius and Rose, or the soon-to-be Scorpius and Victoire, and he never would.

“Mr. Potter,” he grinned politely. “Happy Christmas!”

“You too, my boy. Go on back, all the kids are out there,” he told Scorpius, returning to his conversation with his father-in-law. Scorpius smirked to himself as he sneaked outside and sought out Victoire Weasley, the part-veela girl. He found her by a nearby tree and sidled up behind her, his hand resting on her hip. A few whispered words into her ear and seven minutes later, Scorpius was happily squished into the tiny broom closet near the back door with Victoire pressed up against him in every which way, her lips working hard against his. If Scorpius didn’t know better, he’d have sworn that Victoire was just as much a whore as he was.

It's wrong. It is totally and completely wrong, and she knows this.

It doesn't stop her from kissing him back, though. It doesn't stop her from pressing herself against him, from putting her hand beneath his shirt and running her fingers across the skin of his back.

He moves her backwards, pushes her up against the wall. She moans at the feel of his weight against her, at the feel of his lips on her neck, at the feel of his breath against her skin.

She isn't sure this is even what she really wants. It feels right, feels really good, but the consequences of kissing Scorpius - of doing this with Scorpius - are running through her head. She knows if whatever this is doesn't stop right now people will get hurt. Teddy will get hurt, most of all.

It's raining outside, hard. Thunder is rattling the windows; she can see flashes of lightning in his dimly lit flat.

His teeth graze her skin and she can no longer focus on any one thing. The feel of it all is causing a dizzying sensation, making her thoughts incoherent.

He lifts her up, carries her down the hallway, her legs wrapped tightly around him. They don't speak.

Victoire stops thinking about what is right and wrong. She can only think about what she needs.

This hadn’t been what he wanted.

Ever since his first day at Hogwarts, Scorpius had been captivated by the stunning blonde beauty at the Gryffindor table. Her smile was dazzling, her laugh was like twinkling bells, and it didn’t matter that she was only one-eighth veela; she had the charm and looks of a full-blooded one. Of course, she was six years older than him and in a different House to boot, so the times he saw her were few and far between.

Victoire Delacour-Weasley. That was her name. She was a Gryffindor prefect- made Head Girl in Scorpius’ second year- with her mother’s looks and her father’s easy smile. It was a potent combination; one that turned the most sensible- if teenage boys can even be called that- of boys into blathering, drooling idiots.

He was no different. He went out of his way to put himself in her consciousness. It was no way for an heir of the Black and Malfoy lines to behave, but he was young and naïve. Perhaps, he thought, if he won her attention, then she could look past the age difference and he could win her affection.

It was of no use, though. She only had eyes for the Lupin boy- the one with the colorful hair. He remembered quite vividly how she’d laughed and blushed with her friends when, on St. Valentine’s Day, he’d sent her a plain silver necklace with a delicate rose pendant on it. It wasn’t much- Scorpius could have bought her one made of platinum and rubies- but she’d treasured it as if it were made of diamonds.

Scorpius had grown up, matriculated from Hogwarts, and set off to make his mark in the world. But he hadn’t been able to completely forget Victoire Delacour-Weasley and her bewitching smile.

It was for that reason that he was standing here today, in front of all his family and friends in the back gardens of Malfoy Manor. His dress robes were impeccably tailored, and his blonde hair was slicked back from his face in typical Malfoy fashion. Were the nerves- he refused to call them ‘butterflies’- in his stomach any less, he might have been amused at the discreet glares passing back and forth across the aisle between Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter.

Victoire was beautiful, ethereal as she walked down the aisle towards him, a bouquet of purple irises in her hands. His stomach did an extra flip-flop when she smiled at him, that dazzling smile that had first captivated him at age eleven.

But it was the sight of Rosie, his bride, following behind her cousin that made his breath catch in his throat. She practically radiated happiness as her father led her down the aisle, towards him- her soon-to-be husband.

She hadn’t been what he wanted, but through time and trial, he had realized that Rosie Weasley was exactly what he needed.

He came into the fold of the Weasley children by befriending Albus; he was kept there for a while when he dated Rose for a while; remained there for even longer because his friendship with Albus remained in tact.

Sitting at one of the Weasley family gatherings, tapping one of his feet in the grass, watching the eldest Weasley cousin gaze longingly at the man that was once her boyfriend but no longer was, the man playing quite roughly with the boys, his blue hair shinning in the light.

"You're in love with him," Scorpius notes easily.

"Aren't you perceptive?" She turns to look at him, pale eyebrow arched, cocks her head slightly to the side. "Who knew you were so intuitive?"

"There are many things you don’t know about me, Victoire."

"Of this I am quite sure."

----

Three months later he attends the birthday celebration for Albus, lounging out in one of the chairs, watching Victoire watching Teddy dance with the girl that he brought with him, the date that he has, the woman he is calling his girlfriend.

"You know, it's becoming rather pathetic to watch you obsess over your ex-boyfriend."

"Perhaps that is because you don’t know what it feels like to be in love."

"If it means to turn into a slave to someone who doesn’t want you anymore then I'd rather not know what it feels like."

"And what do you suggest?" She turns her head to look at him, pushes some of her pale blonde hair over one of her shoulders in a smooth and elegant gesture.

"Fine someone else."

"Who? Someone like you perhaps? You're little more than a child, you know."

"That may be true," he concedes, nodding his head a little as he stands, stretching out his long limbs. "But I'm mature enough to know not to overlook a good thing."

-----

Months of word games; months of arguing; months of denial and waiting, waiting, waiting. She moons after one who doesn’t want her anymore, he keeps telling her to move on. they dance around each other like chess pieces on a board, trade quips and snide remarks; give each other looks that are searching and scorching and at times highly inappropriate, a silent challenge.

It happens late one night, happens in the rain that she shows up at his door, dripping wet, pale hair clinging to her face like little tiny bits of a halo.

"Do you really think that I deserve more than that? More than waiting for him to finally want me again? To love me?"

"I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t mean it."

She looks up at him, water dripping off of her nose, running along the planes of her face, eyes like two oceans shinning, drawing him in, threatening to drown him. "I want more," she finally tells him. "I deserve it."

He smiles at her, almost smirking. "About time."

She doesn’t think a kiss was ever felt so satisfying. Or felt more real.

Title: The Best Friend
Words: 400
Rating: PG
Warnings: Nothing but a small bit of angst

“I tried so hard to make her change her mind!” Scorpius lamented to his best friend.

“Why did she still choose him?” he continued on…

He had just come from Rose Weasley’s wedding where he had finally poured out his heart to her. Now he was back at the manor wondering how his plan had gone so horribly wrong. He loved Rose with all his heart and it hurt to realize she didn’t love him back.

Victoire looked up at him, her own anguish hidden well. She’d known how deeply Scorpius loved Rose but secretly she was glad. Rose wasn’t the right kind of girl for her pal Scorpius, she was too rough around the edges, she’d never been refined enough to fit in with the Malfoy family. Victoire on the other hand had always felt at home here in the manor. She knew her friend’s heart was breaking but hopefully he’d see things in a better light down the road.

“Rose is what you wanted Scorpius but zat doesn’t mean she was what you truly needed or what was best for you. In time zings will work out I’m sure…” she stammered, unsure of what words could make this any better.

“In the meantime she’s off on her Parisian honeymoon with Professor Neville’s son and I’m left here with nobody!” he said in an injured tone.

“Zat’s not true. You still ‘ave me.” she whispered shyly.

Scorpius turned to look at the golden haired woman sitting patiently next to him. Here she was comforting him as she always had through this whole Rose debacle, steadfast and true. Suddenly he realized that maybe she might be right.

Rose was vibrant and outgoing, everything he wasn’t and that was probably why he loved her so much, but he and Victoire were both so grounded and practical. His father would probably say they were a perfect match. She was his best friend, the one he’d shared everything with since the first day they’d begun going to school together. Rose was the one his heart wanted but was she truly what he needed in his life? Perhaps Scorpius had been wasting his time looking for the love he desired when all along what he really needed was right her at home. Victoire had been his rock throughout it all and now he just might need her more than he ever thought he had.

Title: The Engagement Party
Words: 336
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Angst

Victoire Weasley had been in love with Teddy Lupin since she was six year old and he rescued her from a fearsome bullfrog that lived behind her grandparents' house. Her adoration of him had lasted through all seven years of Hogwarts and for six years afterwards. They had dated briefly, but broken up because Teddy had said that kissing her was like kissing a family member. Obviously that sentiment had not extended to all Weasley women since Victoire was currently suffering through his and Rose’s engagement party.

Scorpius Malfoy had been in love with Rose since the end of fifth year when she’d grabbed him by his tie pulled him behind greenhouse two for a snog. They dated exclusively for over a year and a half. She’d been the first girl - the only girl - he’d ever slept with. He’d planned on spending the rest of his life with her. Something, however, had happened during their seventh year. Rose had returned from Christmas holiday distant and colder than he’d ever seen her. Within two weeks she’d broken up with him, and within a month she was dating Teddy Lupin. Barely able to contain the rage he felt at seeing them together, Scorpius wished he’d refused to attend their party.

Victoire realized he didn’t look like Teddy. He was pointy, thin, blond, and young, while Teddy was muscular, chiseled, dark, and mature. She didn’t want him, but needed him to get through this night.

Scorpius was glad she didn’t look like Rose. Rose was tall and freckled, with wild hair and even wilder deep blue eyes. Victoire was petite, had a peaches and cream complexion, straight blond hair, and soft brown eyes. Although she was probably the most beautiful woman Scorpius had ever seen, he didn’t want her. He wanted Rose.

“Would you like to spend the night at my place?”

He nodded. “Yeah. I need to get out of here.”

“Me too,” she whispered, grabbing him by the arm and Apparating them both away from the celebration.
