It's like thunder without the rain when your heart feels like its being torn from your chest. Seconds feel like minutes; minutes feel like hours; hours feel like days. Time all but stands still; logic takes a vacation while you wait to hear the voice of the person you loved the most again knowing that the next time you hear it that it won't be you that they're speaking to.
His voice echoes in the clicking of the clock on the wall; his scent lingers on the breeze; the ice cubes sound like him in the glass and his scent still lingers on the pillows, in her clothes. (She tucked all of his pictures away in a drawer where the memories could fester and morph into something that didn’t even resemble reality anymore.)
And when he comes to visit and sits with his new love, threads his fingers through hers and smiles when she speaks the whole grows and shifts and turns into this bleeding, gaping wound in her side. (Sometimes she thinks if they opened her chest up she'd be missing something important; her heart, a lung, a rib. It doesn’t matter what she'd be missing, only that something would in fact be gone.)
She knows it's over; he tells her himself.
"You don’t control who you love," he reminds her. "And I'm sorry that meant you had to get hurt."
But he lingers on besides her, his face in everything she says or does. (Sometimes she swears that she can see him when she looks in the mirror, a brief glimpse of him over her shoulder but when she blinks he's gone and the ache gets stronger; the betrayal gets worse.)
They once lived in love; once his fingers would be thread through hers. Once she wanted for nothing; once the future wasn’t so daunting. (Once there was light where it's now dark; once there was hope where there was now none. Once there was beauty that he had taken away when he took his heart back from her.)
The fire of lightning lights up the sky and its looks like Scorpius' face, another tug at her heart; another dash of salt in the wounds. (Her brain tries to tell her what her heart has forgotten; tries to remind her that she's so much stronger knows.)
The rain comes.
His face is washed from her window.
For now.

A/N: I used Don McLean’s “Everybody Loves Me, Baby”
Scorpius had a method, a plan. Of course he did. He was Slytherin, not some half-brained Gryffindor, he thought with a small smile. He crept along the twilit corridor, thinking that some rules were meant to be broken. Al had loaned him his brother’s Invisibility cloak. They’d been planning this wee bit of castle-plundering for ages. All in the name of loving Molly.
He thought of his one thing, the girl who evaded him narrowly each time. He lifted the Polyjuice Potion to his lips, felt the intensity of his thoughts sear his mind, closed his eyes and drank all of it in one go. He writhed as the feeling of hot bubbling wax stole through him. He spoke aloud: “I’m still Scorpius Malfoy.” The sound came out slightly deeper, and he looked in the glass of a window in the corridor. James Potter. The boy his Molly batted her eyelashes at instead of him.
He grinned and strode through the corridor, the Cloak still covering him. If he got caught, he would be James. If he didn’t, maybe he’d get to kiss Molly, if only as James, and if the world was an awesome place, he would kiss her as himself, she’d run for him and he’d show her who he was. He sat outside the entrance to the Fat Lady, tuned his guitar, and then strummed tunelessly but sang his (James’) flawless voice (speaking of half-brained Gryffindors):
“Fortune has me well in hand, armies 'wait at my command
My gold lies in a foreign land buried deep beneath the sand...”
Scorpius’ hands fumbled slightly. He lost his way, but played on:
“You see, everybody loves me, baby, what's the matter with you?
Won'tcha tell me what did I do to offend you?
Yes, and the ocean parts when I walk through, and the clouds dissolve and the sky turns blue
I'm held in very great value by everyone I meet but you
'cause I've used my talents as I could, I've done some bad, I've done some good
I did a whole lot better than they thought I would so, c'mon and treat me like you should!”
He didn’t dare to look up. It would probably backfire. There was a small knot of Gryffindors at the entrance to Gryffindor tower. Al was keeping James occupied with a dare to see who was faster on a broom by night. He glanced left and there was Rose with a small smile on her face.
“Oh, James!” and Scorpius whirled off the Cloak. Her look of admiration...
“I’m Scorpius.” he told her, quietly. A strange look crossed her face, and then they were kissing, the late hour and crowd forgotten.

"Everyone knows it was you", Molly informed him. "She told the whole school."
"Who?" Scorpius asked in confusion. "Who told the whole school what?" He had no idea what she was talking about; he wasn't even sure why she was talking to him. Sure, he'd had a crush on Molly Weasley for ages, but this was the first time she'd ever even seemed to notice him.
"That Greek exchange student you've been having it off with, Wilhelmina", she replied. "Everyone knows the baby's yours. You really wrecked her life; did you know that, Scorpius? Her parents are going to send her to some Muggle convent when she gets home. And they're going to make her put your little boy up for adoption." She took in his blank stare. "You don't even care, do you? You broke her heart, actually. She honestly thought you were going to marry her."
Scorpius' eyes bulged as he realised she was being serious. "WHAT??? Listen ... Molly ... you've got to believe me. It wasn't like that. I didn't-"
"Shhh", Molly pressed a finger against his lips. "I had no idea you were such a bad boy."
"I'm not! Really..." Scorpius' attempt to convince her trailed off into nothingness as Molly began unbuttoning her robes, revealing that she was wearing - oh, sweet Merlin - absolutely nothing underneath.
"I really, really like bad boys."
Scorpius decided their were much better uses he could put his mouth to besides protesting.
...
"Check you out!" Garrett Goyle crowed after watching Molly leave with a spring in her step and a giant hickey on her neck. "Who would have guessed you were such a Lothario?"
Too exhausted to speak, Scorpius just raised his eyebrows and collapsed into an armchair.
"I honestly thought you were a bit of a geek, Malfoy, what with being a prefect and the Gobstones team captain and starting that Japanese Animagic fan club. And then you go and score with the two biggest hotties in the school! And a bunch of other birds were talking about how they'd love to have a go with you now. Give me five, man!"
Limply, Scorpius raised a hand. He winced at the enthusiastic slap it recieved.
"But be honest", Goyle went on. "Don't you even feel a little bad about that Genetopulous girl? I mean, I know she was a bit of a nutter, but getting her locked away is a bit harsh."
"Listen, Gar, can you keep a secret?" Scorpius asked.
Goyle nodded eagerly.
Scorpius leaned in and lowered his voice. "Don't tell anyone, but Billie Gene was not my lover. She's just some girl who thinks that I am the one. But the kid is not my son!"

Scorpius’ first encounter with the Potter/Weasley clan was his first time on the Hogwarts express. One ran into his compartment (no one had wanted to sit with him) and slid the door shut, panting as if he’d been running. Short red hair gave him away as a Weasley. His back was turned to Scorpius while he muttered and banged his forehead gently on the door. “Way to go, Milo. Way. To. Go. A fantastic way to start your fourth year.”
“Er, excuse me?” Scorpius said, his father had taught him to be polite after all.
The boy jumped, spinning around and Scorpius had realized the mistake he had made. It wasn’t a boy at all, though she had certainly looked like one from the back and Scorpius had a feeling that was what she’d been going for. Small breasts were covered by a Muggle button up shirt and she was wide eyed. “How’d you get in here?” she asked, still panting slightly.
“Er, by walking? I’ve been he since you walked in,” Scorpius answered. While he’d never tell his father, the Weasley and Potter families had always intrigued him.
“Oh,” she said and ran her fingers through her short hair.
“So, who’s Milo?”
The Weasley paused and then set her shoulders. “Me. On the inside. But everyone calls me Molly.”
“Oh,” he says and holds out his hand, smiling. “Hullo, Milo. I’m Scorpius.”
~
Scorpius’ second encounter with Molly Weasley happened while waiting outside his father’s office at the Ministry. Though admittedly, he did wonder which of the male Weasleys were visiting Percy Weasley when she went in. She stormed out of her father office and abruptly stopped when she saw Scorpius. They’d never had a friendship at school, but they did nod when passing in the corridors.
“Scorpius, from the train... Hello, how are you?” she asked politely.
“Fine, about to have lunch with my father. You?” Scorpius asked, curious.
“Heh, I just told him,” she says and runs her fingers through her hair.
“...About Milo?”
“Yah.”
“Wow, didn’t go well?” Scorpius asked.
“Er, no. He told me to come back when my priorities were straight. I told him to contact me when he straightened his own and left,” she looked at Scorpius and grinned. “There’s a potion you know. That can help me, and the Muggles have had ways to fix it for years. I-I can become Milo.”
Scorpius sucks in a breath. “Well. Will you?”
Mol- Milo takes a deep breath and whispers excitedly, “Yah.”
“That’s brave. Good luck!”
With a smile and a “Thanks!” Milo leaves Scorpius with inspired thoughts tumbling in his head. Perhaps today’s lunch he’ll tell his father about Alec, who’s a Muggle.

Scorpius watched as she turned to leave. It was the same time and again; they would fight, tear each other apart and go their separate ways. Somehow, they always seemed to come back to one another but for some reason this time seemed different. The words had been more hateful and he wasn’t sure they would be able to forgive one another. He had a feeling if she left this time it would be the end.
“Don’t go…” he cried out softly, his voice raw with emotion.
Molly stopped in mid stride, her brown eyes were brimming with tears but she wasn’t sure about turning back. She loved Scorpius but it was a love hampered by their families’ bitter rivalries of years gone past. She often thought they were meant to be together but then her family would convince her otherwise. Scorpius would make some snide comment, typical of a Malfoy or she would make one typical of a Weasley and the fighting would ensue. Could they really make it in a world of polar opposites that was infused by years of hatred? She often wondered they weren’t doomed from the very beginning.
“I don’t want to do this anymore.” she whispered back with sadness in her voice.
“It doesn’t have to be like this. We can love each other without all the hurt and pain. I’m in agony without you Molly. You know that…” his voice broke and the tears began to flow down his face.
She turned around and looked at him. The breaking of his heart was evident upon his face. She wanted this too but she was so unsure. They just couldn’t keep tearing each other down like this, couldn’t keep on hurting one another.
Suddenly, she didn’t care… she loved Scorpius and for this moment, it was all that mattered. She walked closer to him and allowed him to wrap her within his embrace. Here, everything could be so perfect. His embrace made her feel as if nothing else really mattered and no matter what they would make it somehow. In his arms was where she longed to be.
“Why does it have to be so hard?” she asked him.
“I don’t know… all I do know, is that I love you Molly Weasley. I say to hang with our families! We need to live for ourselves and not for everyone else. Please Molly, say you’ll give it another try…” his grey eyes pleaded with her to say yes.
She hesitated, still unsure of which way to turn. She tilted her head up to his to receive his gentle kiss and whispered quietly.
“Of course I will, you‘re all I need Scorpius… All I need.”
