Words: 400

Dominique is seven when she realises that she doesn’t have a built in best mate. Victoire and Teddy have been joined at the hip since infancy, Louis and James are as close as twins. Even the babies, Albus and Rose, babble to each other in their own special language.
But Dominique has no one.
“Maman,” complains Dominique one day. “I want a friend.”
Her mother tries to point out that she already has friends; Sophie, Elinor, Charles, but her words fall on deaf ears and send Dominique running outside, tears streaming down her freckled face. In the far corner of the garden is a tree, her tree, and Dominique slides down against it, sobbing at the unfairness of her life.
“Dom?”
A voice surprises her and Dominique looks up to see Teddy standing in front of her, shock and concern on his face. “Are you okay?” he asks.
Dominique continues to cry. A moment passes before she feels a comforting hand on her shoulder. At her questioning look Teddy says, “You shouldn’t cry alone.”
-
Dominique is fourteen when she first gets her heart broken. The Common Room is empty and Dominique is able to find a half hidden seat by the fireplace, where she is able to cry silent tears. Her eyes have turned red and her face blotchy by the time she hears somebody say, “You look like you could really use a cuddle, mate.”
It’s his voice that does her in, the voice that reminds her of her childhood. Dominique lets out a fresh stream of tears as Teddy sits down and pulls her towards him, resting his chin on her head.
“It’s going to be okay,” he says. “I promise.”
-
Dominique is twenty one as she watches Teddy pace the small room, his eyes wide.
“For the love of -what was I thinking Dom? I mean, what if I can’t-?”
His voice trails off and Dominique smiles. “You know what? I think you’re worrying too much.”
Teddy gives her a slight grin and drags her into a tight hug. When he lets her go, Dominique is relieved to see he doesn’t look quite as nervous.
“Better?” she asks.
“Better,” he beams.
“Now go marry my sister, you twat,” Dominique gives him another smile as she hits him on the arm, happy to see that after all these years, it is finally her turn to comfort him.

Dominique opened her eyes and gazed sleepily at the nurse studying her chart at the foot of the bed. She winced as she struggled to sit up; the appendix-dissolving potion had left her incredibly sore. Still, this was important.
"I'm know it's you." Her voice sounded hoarse. "You know you can never fool me."
The grey-haired lady flushed and wrinkled her nose. Dominique watched as her features blurred and reformed themselves into those of a nervous-looking young man.
"Sorry if I woke you", Teddy muttered. "I just wanted to check in. I'll go now, if you like."
"Stay for a while." Dominique patted the mattress.
Teddy settled himself gingerly, as if wary of hurting her. Dominique was amazed that he was trying so hard not to let any part of his body touch hers, even though she hardly had any childhood memories that didn't involve the two of them wrestling like puppies.
"I didn't think you were coming." She plucked at her blanket. "I put your name on my visitor list, but you didn't come."
"I thought it would be awkward."
"It probably would have been."
Teddy shuffled to his feet. "I really should let you sleep. But you're looking great, Dom. I bet you'll be fine in no time."
"Am you just going to disappear again?" Dominque didn't care if she sounded pathetic. It had been eighty-six days since she'd last seen Teddy and they'd been some of the worst of her life.
"You know I don't want to." Teddy looked miserable. "But your family can't stand me, and I can't blame them. After what I did to you-"
"You didn't do anything I hadn't wished for and prayed for. And I don't care if that makes me a tramp or bad sister or whatever. It's the truth."
"That's how you feel now." There were tears in Teddy's eyes. "But she's your sister. She's family. No matter what, you're tied to her for life. And if things didn't work out between you and me, you'd have ruined that relationship for nothing."
Dominque held his gaze. "But if you and I really gave it a shot, things would work out, wouldn't they?"
Teddy slowly reached out and took her hand. The touch was like balm. "Yeah. Yeah, I think they would. But there's no way to know for sure."
She closed her fingers around his. "Just stay a little longer."

Words:400
Rating:PG 13
“They say blood’s thicker than water. Growing up in the Weasley family, I’ve never hated a saying more. Being younger means always giving into Victoire’s needs over my own.” she whispered frustration evident within her voice.
Teddy Lupin looked up at the fair young beauty. She was the baby sister of his fiancé. A fact that had never kept him from appreciating her simple beauty. She’d inherited more of the Weasley in the reddish sheen of her hair and that lovely smattering of pale freckles crossing her aristocratically shaped nose.
Everyone expected him to marry Victoire who was the spitting image of her Veela mother. Lately though, Teddy had been wondering if he really truly loved her, especially with his burgeoning attraction to her little sister. He and Dominique had always been good friends but lately he was seeing her in a more womanly manner. She was no longer just a friendly pal to play Quidditch with and take swimming at the local pond. She suddenly had curves in all the right places and Teddy had found it hard to ignore the stirrings and pretend for Victoire’s sake.
“I’m sure being in the middle must be hard Dommi…” he was unsure of what sort of reaction she wanted from him.
“It is but only because Vikki always gets everything I want first. I never even have a fighting chance.” she whined to him.
“Maybe you just have to take what you want and worry about the consequences later.”
With Dommi’s cousins James and Albus, Teddy was known for breaking the rules. The boys were quite a handful for her Uncle Harry because they often did what they wanted.
“Exactly Teddy, I plan to get what I want this time around. Blood may be thicker than water but I think that maybe the ribbons of love are even stronger. They seem to be the ties that bind me to you dear Teddy.”
He looked up at her, looked into pale blue eyes that had offered him friendship and comfort so often in the past. Those same eyes now offered him so much more.
Their lips met in a searing kiss, months of pent of feelings fueling the fires that burned within. Tongues swirled together while hands explored bodies already memorized by years of friendship. A love they had once thought forbidden suddenly felt so right and so binding for them both.

Words:400

You can always find connections with other people. Whether it is in a mutual interest or acquaintance, it is unusual to find someone where no connection can be made. All her life Dominique had found those connections with Teddy. Until Lucy had entered Hogwarts they had been the only two to be sorted into Hufflepuff. They were the only two who knew the password, knew how comfortable the squishy couches were in the Common Room and how being in Hufflepuff made it infinitely easier to get a midnight snack from the house elves in the kitchens.
The connections between the two went beyond the superficial as well. Both had inherited from their fathers a certain obsession with the moon. On nights when the moon was full, the two could be found sitting side by side in companionable silence on the top of the Astronomy tower, contemplating the the associations it had with how they lived their lives and how people viewed them. It was these evenings which made them friends in their own right, not because they were thrown together at family gatherings. No one knew about these meetings, at least not while both were at Hogwarts. It was this fact which gave Dominique hope.
Hope that was unfounded she now thought. She took in her surroundings. The garlands of flowers that adorned the rows of chairs in the marquee. The way in which the white material billowed with the breeze. She was walking up the aisle, looking at the numerous smiling faces all directed at her. She walked shakily, nearing the place where Teddy stood waiting. He glanced at her and a smile lit up his face. It was so easy to pretend that she was the one he was waiting for, that the polar forces of calm and anxiety she felt when he looked at her were also felt by him. That was not the case however.
Dominique thought of the ties that bound them. The house loyalty, the fear that one full moon they would change. The fact that he was now her brother in law. They would always be intrinsically linked Dom mused He loved Victoire. While Dom wanted the best for her sister, she could not help yearning that this connection did not exist and that there was another one in its place, between herself and Teddy. That which existed between two people in love.

Teddy regrets trying to close the distance between Dominique and him because she shoves him away, shoves him hard, and he stumbles backwards. Panting, he holds onto the frame of the door of Shell Cottage and opens his mouth to speak.
“Shut up,” Dominique snarls. The air around her crackles with her anger and Teddy is almost afraid of her. He’s more afraid that he suddenly thinks it would be justified to hit her.
“I bloody won’t -”
She hits him first. He hasn’t expected or even seen the movement and staggers, but doesn’t want to give her the pleasure of falling down. He grabs her wrist and pulls her close, eyes locking with hers. He’s still panting, she’s not, but she’s shaking with rage and Teddy can feel the pulse racing in her wrist.
“You think I don’t care, right?” Teddy says, hoping the volume of his voice will make Dominique let him through, because he doesn’t want to hurt someone who ought to be family. “I care as much about her as you do.”
“Shut up!” Dominique twists her hand and encloses Teddy’s wrist. “This isn’t about you. This is about my sister. And you’ve hurt her too often. So shut the fuck up and leave, or I’ll -”
“Punch me again?” He can barely finish his sentence before her free hand bangs into his stomach. It hurts, and Teddy gasps, not able to hold himself on his feet when Dominique tries to shove him away once more. But he doesn’t let go of her wrist and as he falls backwards he drags her down with him.
She’s straddling his lap, trying to get up, but Teddy pulls her down again, her face too close, and Teddy can suddenly only think that she looks exactly like her sister when her hair falls over her face.
“Just trust me once, Dominique,” Teddy rasps, determined. “Nothing will ever cut the bind between your sister and me.”
Dominique glares at him. “You bloody bastard.” And then she’s kissing him, roughly devouring his mouth so suddenly that Teddy can only respond.
But returning the kiss is exactly the mistake Dominique has been waiting for. She pulls away, but avoids Teddy’s eyes.
“There are no ties that bind men. Especially not love,” she says bitterly and with the proof that Teddy isn’t the right one to make her sister happy she gets up.

Words: 400
Rating: PG
When Dominique was four her entire world consisted of her sister. The sun rose and set at Victorie's command. She could do no wrong and Dominique would follow her to the ends of the earth, or at least the end of the garden as Grandma Weasley would box their ears.
When Dominique was six she wished she could changer her hair like Teddy so Victorie would be as happy with her as she seemed with him.
When Dominique was eight her sister abandoned her for Teddy and Hogwarts. How could she forgive that?
When Dominique was nine she stole Victorie's wand and turned all her hair a deep purple. It earned her a hefty lecture from her father and Victorie ignored her for the rest of the holiday. Teddy, however, had trouble holding back a smile and sent her a wink.
When Dominique was eleven she boarded the Hogwarts Express and tried to sit with Victorie. The scathing look she received sent her quickly to the other end of the train. Teddy stopped to sit with her a while after his rounds as a prefect.
When Dominique was thirteen she came across Teddy and Victorie in a rather compromising situation in the third floor corridor. The blackmail possibilities were fantastic but she couldn't quite explain the feeling in the pit of her stomach when Teddy pleaded with her not to tell.
When Dominique was fifteen she was finally free of Victorie at Hogwarts. She hadn't done her much good last year anyway after attempting to suck off Teddy's face on the platform and revealing their relationship to the family. Dominique had been forced to do all of her own Arithmancy work.
When Dominique was eighteen she spent her first Christmas out of Hogwarts observing the volatile relationship that existed between Teddy and Victorie. There were many tears and many reconciliations. Victorie decided now that they were both adults that they should put aside childish rivalries and thus Dominique became the designated "Shoulder Upon Which To Cry." That feeling in the pit up her stomach made an appearance again whenever Victorie complained that it just wasn't going to work out.
When Dominique was twenty she finally understood the feeling in her stomach as Teddy held her face in his hands and kissed her at the Weasley family picnic. Victorie's shocked face as she stomped off in a huff didn't hurt either.
