Hello dusty LJ! *tail-sweeps dust*
I hope you are having an excellent May! I am so grateful my spring classes are done with save some students who flopped out and needed incomplete grades. Eh, they were mostly deserved.
Last entry had some rather revealing things about my life and all, so I figured an update is in order. The short of it is, Loop' and I did not go open at FWA. LOL! ... We tried by attending a couple of those sort of legendary fur parties. You know the sort. In any event, we didn't find them appealing at all. Packing 12+ people into a hotel room gets very humid and warm, fast. Plus, it's sort of a state fair cattle exhibition smell that lingers. Not appealing. And then, I discovered people tend to gravitate to one or two people who they want to, er, get frisky with, so it's basically a bunch of horny people fawning over one or two who are present.
I sat back and just watched the first of the two such parties we stopped by at. It was less arousing and more sociologically fascinating in a weird way. The second event? Eh, we stopped by but ended up leaving after 5 minutes max. So, I guess this sort of thing isn't for us. And, that's okay. I found some ways to try to satisfy Loop' more at the con, and it's all good. As he shared, he feels awkward at cons and socially, so trying to hook up with people validates him. I get it 100%. But now, I understand him more and think we feel a deeper connection. I suppose looking out and checking out other people can sometimes remind you what you have and how special, important it is?
Aside from that, the con was fantastic. The downside is I did not get to hang out with friends as much as I wanted. We always seemed to have something to do. Overall, I had one dinner and one evening with friends, which really isn't enough. Yes, I fursuited with them some, but in suit it's so easy to get separated. One friend mentioned how he felt we didn't get enough time to catch-up. Well, that got my insane jackal brain simmering.
So, it looks like I'm going to chair a con.
"Carolina Chill Con" is in the formative stages. I've long said we need a fur con with no raves, dealers, events, or otherwise, and merely a venue where we can get together with friends for actual conversation, games, and time together. Well, in the words of one of my fav' characters ever, the sublime Jean Luc Picard (of course the fantastic Patrick Stewart!), "make it so!" And so it is. I'm planning for a June or July 2023 "con" where we just get together at an old school comfy lodge in the North Carolina mountains for 3 or 4 nights and just chill. Games, pool table, fire pit, rocking chairs on cabin porches overlooking a valley, star gazing, hiking to waterfalls, and that's it. Simple. Relaxing. Quality time with friends.
At present, it looks like 11 of us are in. I'll be keeping watch on whether more want in, but will contact the lodge later this month to start planning b/c we'll need to get the rooms booked early. So, go me. If this blossoms into something where we take over the whole lodge, wow, I'm going to be stoked. And, I'll join the ranks as a "con chair." XD
