... that's strikingly appropriate.

Isn't it just.

[Tom is not in the view of the camera. He is somewhere within his kitchen, but where, the view does not give away.]

[He's glad that Tom has managed to find someplace. It certainly doesn't look like the kitchen of the clinic, at least not what he can see.]

Let's hope it doesn't prove to be an understatement.

An understatement -- no.

[The light in the room flickers -- he has electricity, but something seems to be interfering with it.]

I've long since realized that underestimation in this world is enough to get you killed.

Exactly.

[A pause. That isn't flickering candlelight.]

... why are your lights flickering?

Magic interferes with electricity.

[Somewhat distractedly.]

Really.

What exactly are you doing, if you don't mind my asking?

[Attempting to calm down.]

... magic, sometimes, gets the better of the user, in times of high stress. Consider it an amount of water being poured into a glass. Sometimes it overflows.

[Oh. He knows that all too well.]

Mine does the same thing. Although mine comes in the form of static sparks...

Magic has no visual representation unless you use a specific spell.

Well, it's not necessarily magic, for me. Just magic energy.

They aren't one and the same?

[Talking is good. Distraction is better.]

Magic energy is what gives me the ability to use magic in the first place. It's... sort of like how the energy to cook dinner and actually cooking dinner are completely different things.

[Makes sense. He supposes it's the same in his world. They just use the same word for it.]

If you have magical 'energy' in my world, you use magic whether you like it or not, until you're taught to control it.

[A lot seems to be alike, between their worlds.]

That happens in our world sometimes, too. That's why we begin going to school at age five.

We do not go to Hogwarts until eleven.
