Many of the normal creatures around were changed to something more suitable to avoid drowning. By the information given, the Animus must have skipped you over because you could adapt to the change yourself easily enough.

It's definitely possible -- and I haven't talked to any of the other wizards capable of performing the necessary magic to keep themselves safe.

It wouldn't be as simple as being able to cast the right magic though. They said they tried to deliver properly, so I'm thinking the changes, if any, are with the people's personalities and maybe even home worlds in mind. Would you prefer to have changed, or have things this way?

It's entirely possible. They do seem to look at us as experiments ourselves -- from what I've heard, anyway.

It's what you hear simply because that's how it feels like to everyone. Some of the entities in the Animus probably do see us like that. Some would see us like toys, and I'm positive that there should be some who want to be friends.
