PSA: Verb Noire

Mar 09, 2009 13:11

Rather than just sit around bitching that there aren't enough POC and GBLTs in SF, and that the publishing houses that already exist are stacked against POC & GBLT authors, and stories about POC and GBLTs... verb_noire is doing something about it. Starting up a publishing house that will feature our stories. Yes, if you are white and het you can submit - but your protagonist should be not white and het.

I support Verb Noire, and I hope you will too.

I can't wait to read the stories, and read them to my kids.

I'm not a great writer. I am good at coming up with ideas sometimes, and good at places, but I'm not a writer. My talents lie elsewhere.

But I love to read, and when I have read the stories that have included people like me, in my favorite genere, my heart has soared and I have been so grateful to see myself reflected at last in the pages of a book, a place made for me out among the stars, a place for me where I too can have magic and be part of something bigger than myself. It's a beautiful thing. It's something I want for myself, my children, and for you and yours too.

Diversity is good for us. That's the lesson, it's always the lesson. Monocultures fail - but biodiversity is strong.

I believe that to be true not only in ecology - but in sociology, business, design, you name it.

Support diversity in speculative fiction, support verb_noire .
