I turned 19 weeks pregnant on Friday. According to my ticker, the baby is 10.5 ounces, and 6.5" long. According to
this website, our baby is the size of an heirloom tomato. Luckily, I am not nauseated by this! He/she is also growing hair on his/her head, is covered in vernix, and his/her hearing is probably active. I can start reading books aloud and putting headphones on my belly like a goofball!
Physically I've been feeling OK. I'm nauseated a lot less these days. The train still makes me nauseated but that's about it. My hunger is through the roof. My belly is definitely bigger and so are my breasts. Ay yi yi.
Emotionally I've been kind of melancholy and anxious. I'm almost halfway there, and keenly aware of how fast the time is passing, and how much has to get done before the baby is born. I'm feeling anxious about the economy, about my support system, and about the apartment being too small. I worry a lot and am trying to process that.
I started doing yoga at home, and realized how much my back is hurting from the weight of my *breasts*, not my belly so much yet. Yowza. It also felt really good, and really relaxing and good for my anxiety. I need to do it regularly. I'm very aware of the fact that it's really time to start getting serious about getting in shape for the labor - physically, mentally, emotionally. And for our new life after.
My midwife doesn't weigh her clients - she feels as long as the uterus is growing at the right pace, that means the baby is getting zir nutrients and that's just fine. I've been weighing myself though to keep track. Not out of a sort of sick thing, but I think it's interesting.
For myself, I know that I was about 157 when I got pregnant. I went down to 152 during my first trimester. Now, at 19 weeks, I'm back up to 157. I'm quite happy about all this - it tells me that my weight gain is steady and slow, and really about the baby. I have been eating really well. I'm eating a lot more often now, and a lot more volume over the course of the day, but it's almost always good healthy choices, which I'm pleased about. I'm on a bit of a citrus kick lately and will eat 2 or 3 oranges a day. One in the a.m. and one in the afternoon. Almonds & dried apricots are my favorite afternoon snack.
In the mornings I eat (usually) a fried egg on toast, and later, I will have a bowl of oatmeal. Usually I feel the baby move after both those meals! Zie likes breakfast foods.
I feel the baby almost every morning (didn't this morning), and usually now once in the afternoon. This week is the first time I noticed zir hanging out on one side or the other. Zie seems to like the left side a bit more. I am lefty, so maybe that is why.
Baby books I'm reading currently: The Baby Book (slowly) and Birthing from Within.
