A thing about s00j

So, a lot of people know about s00j and how she's a musician and got sick and has huge bills due to a lack of medical insurance. And there's been all kinds of fundraisers around like saveours00j to raise money for the expenses.

Anyway, right now there's an anthology on sale here - a limited edition printing to help. It will have stories by Neil Gaiman, Charles De Lint, Cat Valente, and others on my flist and beyond. I got one.

I'll tell you the weirdest thing though, which may piss off some of you initially - but bear with me here:

I don't actually like s00j's music all that much (though the song for the Palimpest trailer may be the exception). Call it too much overexposure to singer/songwriters with guitars while I lived with my first husband, but it doesn't work for me. I can hear the technical ability - but it's not to my taste. I'm the same way about Picasso, actually. I understand the importance, see the ability - I just don't want it hanging on my wall. It doesn't speak to me on an emotional level.

But really - that's not the point. The point is this: I don't have to like her music to have compassion for her, and her situation. I know so many working artists - musicians, writers, dancers, painters, sculptors, jewelers... I know so many, and only the rare few have health insurance. This could happen to any one of them - it could happen to any one of us. It could have been me before I became a Landscape Architect.

So, go. Get this thing, it's $25 - it's limited, it's full of good stories, and it's for a good cause - it's for a person, just like you.
