I apparently forgot to post that I re-read The Confusion by Neil Stephenson after books 29 & 30 which were Quicksilver and The System of the World.
And then I started re-reading my book 37 .... The System of the World ....again. I'm not really sure what it is that keeps drawing me back. Each reading though, they all become more vivid. I can see Daniel so clearly now. And I understand what is going on so much more. I don't know if it's that I just miss things the first time - I think maybe it's that with huge series like this, there is a lot of ways to read them. All action adventure is one way, romance is another, mystery is a third, historical fiction is another way... .
For me, only now, the philosophical import of what I am reading truly is revealing itself. A deeper understanding of free will, faith, and the mechanistic versus the quantum view of all these things. It's fascinating.
I think Daniel Waterhouse is one of my favorite characters of all time. He has so much depth, he changes so much both as a person and what he does.
After this, I'll be re-reading Cryptonomicon, which I haven't read since the Baroque Cycle came out.
I probably won't bother posting a seperate #37 post for tSotW as I'm about 100 pages to the end, and I've posted about it before. I'll post my book-log when I'm done with Cryptonomicon.
In case you haven't guessed already, I love this series of books. I think they are brilliant.
