rain, music, rockstars... the perfect combination.

today was kinda of borderline fantastic, like one of those days that  you go all day like blahh and then at the end realize, hey, i did a lot of cool stuff today.

work was like usual.  i got to listen to the new white stripes album before anyone (who doesn't like in chicago) got to, since it releases in a month.  i had to check it to make sure it was working right on the website.  its good, listen -- go to vh1.com and go to white stripes artist page and you hear it first.  its worth a listen, kinda different, very rock and roll... and he talks a lot about his love for redheads... maybe i will go to the show at madison square garden.  do you think jack white can tell i'm a redhead from the nosebleed section?  it does come in handy... my friend andrew never would have found me at the cartel show tonight if i were short and brunette.

so after work i had a little time to kill so i gave in and talked to one of those guys on the street that try to sell you tickets to comedy shows.  mine was pretty funny - and its not a bad deal -- so i'll probably start checking out comedy clubs in my free time - something else to do on weeknights.  then, i walked around the virgin megastore (whoa! more albums than you could imagine!!) until my friend sam called me to meet to go to the cartel show.

now, i met sam in front of the mtv building, we found out how soon the next bus to the bubble was coming, and then went to grab some food.  we flew through dinner, rushed back to mtv... only to find that the bus would not come for another 30 minutes and it was pouring down rain.  the wait was next to awful in a really funny way now that i look back on it.  i sat on the floor of the mtv store, listening to god awful pop music while 15 year old girls sang alone.  if i were to picture hell... this would be close to it.  finally the bus came and they gave us these hilarious yellow ponchos to wear.  we went up to the top of the double decker bus and sat in the rain, in our ponchos, while we rode through the city.  it was really hilarious.  we had to duck tree branches while trying to drink free dr. pepper.... oh my goodness... it was a good laugh.

we got to the bubble and moved our way up towards the front.  the show was pretty good, the band sounded really good at first, killed the first few songs, and then kinda faded a bit on the newer songs - probably because they wrote them like... last week.  not a whole lot of time to practice!! they ended well and andrew and i went for a walk around the city.

we walked around towards downtown where the streets stop having names for probably an hour.. maybe more.  he showed me some good places to hang out and gave me the REAL new york tour --- not like you hear on those tour buses... we went to the beginning of new york where 1 av and 1 st meet, kinda weird, and then met up with some of his friends in the east village for drinks.

i had found out earlier in the week that cartel (the band in the bubble) was having their afterparty at angels and kings (our fav bar -- i've been in new york 2 weeks and been to the same bar 3 times now!!) so we too his friends there.  it was really empty at first but slowly the bar got packed beyond belief.  i saw so many people there that looked familiar... travis from gym class heroes, jesse from motion city soundtrack(who had the birthday the first time i went there), all the guys from cartel, a guy i'm pretty sure is the lead singer for armor for sleep, and i guess the band funeral for a friend was there ( i dont know who they are... but they're pants were tighter than andrews - and thats a feat - haha)

we stayed for a bit, i like hanging out with rock stars... it kinda suits me...  and then i braved the subway and got home alive!! i even had to transfer and made it just fine!! oh, i'm getting better at this -- soon i'll be able to do it without having andrew take me to the subway, make sure i get on the right one, and swipe me in... haha.

in other news, i heard back from a couple PR people from shows  i submitted for tickets for to write up at rock music review --- so andrew and i get to go to free shows! oh yeah... using my credentials... i like free!!  make friends with me, it pays off!

now i'm off to bed, can't believe i had such a great night on a tuesday.  i love new york!!
