Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

I've talked to Rob (foolsgold13) online for the past year, year and a half. He calls into my radio show, send me cds in the mail, and makes facebook profiles dedicated to me. And, all along, he's only lived 20 minutes away from my house. So we thought it'd be pretty cool to meet each other and hang out in New York City. I liked him so much, I pulled out all my college funds and bought him the life-sized stuffed elephant from FAO Schwarz. Then we ditched Faith while she was playing on the giant piano from Big and rode off into the sunset.

Actually, we all went to the Central Park Zoo, then out to a Persian dinner and coffee. (Faith is still cycling through the list of cheap ethnic restaurants she got from Time Out NY last year.) Either way, it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

This is the week where I do whatever the fuck I waaaaant. My only obligation is to work on my transfer essays. Other than that, I'm sleeping late, watching cartoons, and reading M.R. James' ghost stories. I spent far too much of break feeling obligated to catch up on reading, which eventually led to the tedium and frustration known as D.H. Lawrence's The Rainbow. That said, I did like the following:

Nikolai Leskov, "Lady Macbeth of the Mstensk District"
Vladimir Mayakovsky, The Bedbug and Selected Poetry
Henry James, "The Figure in the Carpet"
chunks of Jorge Luis Borges, Collected Fictions

Whether it's art or sex, it's always the same -- I need to learn to know what I want and when. And after reading some countless amount of books for class this semester, I just want to read ghost stories.
