Restaurant question~

Feb 09, 2012 00:34

This is possibly a silly question, but I figured that I would ask anyway.

I'm looking for a nice, but inexpensive ($20 or less per person, the cheaper the better), restaurant to take my girlfriend to for Valentine's Day. We won't be going on Valentine's Day because we're both a little bit agoraphobic and don't want to deal with tons of people, but ( ... )

Is the $20 pp including tax, tip, drinks, everything? What kind of ethnic food DO you like, because that's probably your best bet at that price point.

Preferably including tax and drinks, but probably not including tip. We're very tight on cash at the moment, unfortunately :\

As for what we do like: American, Chinese, Thai, Italian.. we usually do like, Applebee's or something, since the one near me is quite good, but I really want to do something special.

Oh, wow, thank you! I've sent the link to my gf to look at, and hopefully we'll find something. :)

You could also hit up any sushi joint in south brooklyn (I recommend Mitoushi on Kings Highway and East 13 or Sheepshead Bay Road) and spend less then 20$ per person.

That's an awful long way to travel from Washington Heights. Like, well over 2 hours each way...

Sac's is an italian restaurant in Astoria just off the Broadway stop of N/Q, menu's prob online... romantic and really good... Omonia Cafe is amazing if you're dessert people, also off the same train stop, Cafe Bar has some great food choices as well...

honestly, Astoria is a great bet for you guys... if you google the broadway train stop, just narrow the map to see what's around?

Sanford's is also fun! (any of these are the 1 train to the N/Q to Broadway stop... 45 mins max)

I love Cafe Bar! Not too sure about going there for food, but love it for drinks!

I would also suggest Ornella Trattoria on 23rd ave right off the Ditmars stop.

Since you are in Washington Heights, I would suggest Garden Cafe, Yummy Thai, or La Estufa in Inwood. All three are on Broadway.

Or any of those restaurants in that little enclave around W187th and Fort Washington Ave. There's a Mexican place (Ta'Cocina, something tortured like that?) and I think either 107 West or maybe Next Door has a kind of Asian-fusionish menu?

Not in the area you specified, but I just went to the Bourgeois Pig on 1st Ave and East 7th. It was really romantic and they have fondue which is big enough to split, for $24-$30. Other desserts are $8, so if you split that too, you're looking at a nice but cheap dinner. It's also a wine/beer bar, so if you drink, that will set you back a bit more than you're looking for.

I'm just recommending it anyway because I was there for the first time last night, and had such a great time. The interior is beautiful and very romantic, in a gothic/speakeasy sort of way. A shared fondue and dessert, and one beer, came to $45, which felt very reasonable for what we were getting.
