Check out www.votesmart.org for an overview of statewide candidates. NYPIRG may also have a voter guide available for state and city candidates, I think.

I started here, because I wasn't sure of my local districts, and actually found the info I needed. The have some sort of clicky interactive map page on there somewhere where you can see who's running for your vote.

Smart Voter lets you look up a ballot for your district by putting in your address, and lists all races, candidates and propositions. It also has a impartial analysis of propositions.

I was just going to suggest this! This website is excellent for getting to know who/what is on your specific ballot.

Who knew there was a Proposition this year?

Mostly it's the biannual (re)elections for State Assembly/House and Congress. Since we're in Brooklyn, most of the question of any of these elections was settled in September with the Democratic Primaries. A lot of districts they don't even bother to run a Republican candidate in November.
If you're in a small part of Bay Ridge, Vito Fossella's seat is up so that's a race to pay attention to.
Otherwise, it's mostly local court judges.
