Hey guys, I posted on the "suggested" thread on Astorians.com, but I thought I would also post this to LJ as well.
I was reading about a CSA (Community Support Agriculture) in Astoria and I'd like to join.
You can view their website here (
http://www.astoriacsa.com). For a share (enough for 3-4 people) it's something like $658 for the entire six months starting in June. So, if I split it with three people it would be something like $219 and while I am no good at math, it would probably be something like $8-9/per week for really fresh, healthy produce. They also have a deal with a few other organic farms where you can order meat/dairy and deliver them as well.
I asked my roommate and she wasn't interested because she doesn't eat that much fresh produce- so now I'm looking into just finding anyone who would be interested in sharing. I don't think you necessarily have to be from Astoria to participate, just be willing to travel here once a week to pick up your goods.
Let me know if you're interested- or if anyone in this community has participated in this before (or a CSA in the NYC area) I would love to hear your experiences!
