DMV/ID/Whee!

Aug 15, 2007 13:24

I got all my shit stolen, including my ID (long story) and I need to go to Minnesota on Labor Day weekend lest I never get laid ever again ever.

SO

If you go to the DMV and get an ID card, do they give it to you right away? Do they mail it later? If so how long does it take?

My sex life thanks you.

Edit: Got it, I'm hauling ass over there ASAP ( Read more... )

No they don't give it to you right away, I think they mail it and that takes 2-3weeks.

It takes a while, because they don't make it at the DMV.

I know that when my license was stolen/lost, I went on the DMV website, ordered a new one and it arrived in about a week (though they say give it 2 weeks).

Much better than actually going to the DMV.

Hmmmm I guess it's different when you lose it, since all the info is already in the system.

Go to the website and confirm which ID information they require in order to verify who you are. If there's a police report number, provide it to them.

For me, the quickest way is to go to one of those DMV Express locations, like on 34th street and eighth. You go through the whole paperwork thing which isn't too time consuming, and then they will give you a temporary ID card that's in paper form since your new one will be sent by mail. The paper ID is good but only so far. If you go places and you get carded, you have to have some sort of picture ID (student, preferably passport) that will verify that you are indeed the person who is listed on temp ID but not visually identified.

I think it's a couple of weeks tops until the new picture id comes in.

do you have an expired ID? My boyfriend just called Continental yesterday to ask if he could fly with an expired ID...and they said yes, just bring your birth certificate too.

Yeah, I've flown at least twice with an expired ID. The only thing they make you do is they put you on the separate security check line and use the wands and feel you up a little :P. I didn't mind, and in some cases, it was faster as the other line would be filled up!

I didn't need a birth certificate, but it's better to be on the safe side!
