Finally I am updating with pics of my apartment. I know you all have been anxiously awaiting them! I just got my futon and dining table in today, therefore I took pictures to post onto LJ. Aren't you excited? Don't worry, they are hidden behind cuts. I warn you now, there are a lot of pictures!

Welcome to my home! )

I really like that shot of HOT PINK! I do think you need some more accents in the living room to pull it all together, though. Floor pillows, an area rug with red and pink and maybe some greens and blues, some pictures on the wall, a valance or scarf above/around the windows. Otherwise, it just looks like a former tenant painted the wall pink and you haven't had a chance to change it, since it doesn't coordinate with any of your stuff. I like red and pink together, but you have to be careful and not overdo it, which is why I think mixing in some other colors would be swank. Almost go for some Mexican-flavor colors.

Also, I think I'd pull the table out from the wall and turn it the other direction, to give that area a bit more balance and definition. It looks squeezed. Then you could utilize that space under the pass-through from the kitchen, maybe by putting a console table or buffet-type piece of furniture there, for storage, and maybe as a drop-off area for your purse/tote bag/whatever. That corner might be a better place for that plastic storage bin tower thinger, which you have to admit isn't very aesthetically pleasing. And I'd put that trash can under the sink or at least get one that has a lid, so it looks tidier.

The living room looks cluttered and haphazard, so maybe store that folding chair in the coat closet and get rid of that cardboard box and laundry basket-looking thing.

I really, really dig that set of prints/photos on the hallway wall. I dig the way you mixed up the placement of them, and that they all have the same color matting and same frames. Very classy! I also like the soothing green of the shower curtain, and the knob hangers in the front hallway.
Those bags a good storage solution for things like gloves, hats, scarves and frisbees. I've seen that done with a series of similar canvas bags hung at different heights.

Ooh, and those bland kitchen cabinet doors are SCREAMING out for you to display a collection of postcards on them, or a series of eclectic pictures of any sort. The kitchen needs color!

Wow!! Thanks for all the advice. I'm just lost as to how to set-up that side of the living room right now.

Y'know, after I posted that, I thought, "Dang, I hope she doesn't think I'm dogging on her apartment, 'cause it has a lot of potential to be really, really cute!" And it does.

I know it's hard at first to get things situated; it was just recently that you moved in, right?

It *looks* like you probably have enough room in the LR area to move the futon so it's sitting at an angle from the wall it's currently on, with its back facing toward the dining area. I wouldn't probably do it at a right angle, but you could make it parallel to the TV, which is pretty much the direction you'd want it to face, anyway. Then you'd have a more definted living area (and a rug would help even more with that concept), and you could put that tall bookcase on the pink wall, near the window. Then you'd have the area where the bookcase is now as a walkway.

Your little laptop table could stay on the right side of the futon, and then you could maybe find a smallish cabinet or console-style table to go next to the TV. Enclosed storage is probably better than open bookcases, as far as creating a clean, uncluttered look. Getting away from lining everything up against the walls will go a long way toward making the space feel more comfortable, although granted, that does take up some of the wide open space, so play around with the placement and see what you like.

Your lighting needs a little work, but I think a taller torchiere would be a good solution. That lamp that's next to the TV would work well between the bookcase & futon, if you move them the way I suggested.
