So, from my podiatrist appointment Wednesday, I learned that my red blood count is a little high, and so is uratic (sp?) acid.
Uratic acid is produced from your body when you digest proteins and other foods. Uratic acid levels fluctuate during the day (like sugar levels), but he said if I have too much, it can crystalize in my body and make my joints swell, causing gout. He says I don't have gout, but I have symptoms that are related, and that if I eat the right foods, I can flush out the excess uratic acid. He gave me a list of foods I should eat and those I should avoid.
I can't eat raw apples, but I can have cooked ones. So now I just chop em up and toss them in the microwave. I am supposed to replace whole wheat bread with potato bread or white bread because part of the grain isn't removed in whole wheat? I can't have peas, beans, watermelon, onions, or cabbage. These are all of my favorite things! *pout*
It's frustrating because I feel like a lot of healthier things that I enjoy eating are not something I should be eating as much anymore. He said that I don't need to follow the list religiously, but I need to incorporate those things into my diet. He also said to drink more water. I thought I had been, but with my shorter days at work I only drink about 6 8 oz glasses a day.
I gotta get it checked again in about a month and a half, but he said not to worry about it too much. Of course I worried. I worried myself sick. Now I just gotta plan some meals featuring the foods I should be eating.
