Today I saw Flying Lotus perform at WashU.
He was fun to listen to and watch--few lyrics, but a cheerful performer who clearly loved sharing his music, and a type of music that has a lot of unexpected twists and turns, like a modern day symphony performance with the Instruments of Today, and the magic of surprise thrown into the mix. I took a friend of my brother's with me as my guest (he called to see if I would go with him, as it's WashU students/staff/alumni only and their +1s only, and he needed someone from WashU to get in). I was just sad his girlfriend couldn't get in as well--she had the cash for a ticket, and someone at the door was willing to sponsor her--but apparently they stopped selling tickets the day before the show, so she had to listen from elsewhere on campus. She heard just fine, but part of the fun, for me, is watching someone perform something they obviously love.
After the show (and an engaging conversation in the car about their career plans) they dropped me back off at my house, where I packed some overnight stuff to return to my friend's place and dogsitting.
The dogs are all curled up on the dog beds now, and I am typing and telling myself to do some kind of work before sleeping. I will have tomorrow mostly to myself though, for doing homework and what little writing I'm allowing myself before all schoolwork is done.
