yay wedding fun times

Guns and Devil's wedding was a lot of fun.

I got to spend a lot of time with my Minion, Birdie and Bum. the best part was that Bear and Bum acutally spent a good amount of time together which helped to remedy their attitudes towards one another. It's a happy thing that they are friends now.

Getting to New York was a task, the plane was 4.5 hours delayed! I don't like being in an airport for that long! Then when we got to NY the place we had our car rental set up was closed!!! So we spent about an hour in the airport calling around to different rental car places to find one who was open, had cars available, and had a shuttle at the airport. We were a bit frustrated when we got into the car. We were using the GPS to navigate, it's cool but kind of freaky to not really have any idea where you are going until the little voice pops up and tells you to do something. All of which was "stay on the left" or "left turn ahead" on the way to Tarrytown. Plus it was raining, and the streets are WAY narrower in NY than in TX or CA, so driving was bad. A semi cut us off and came so close I literally could have put my hand out the window and slapped it's side. We eventually got to the hotel and checked in. The first person we saw was Bum, camped out in the hallway, it was a happy thing. It was also happy that Minion was still awake (no real surprise there) though it was sad that we got in too late to go crash the bachelor/bachelorette parties.

The next day we slept in a bit more than we had anticipated but once up Minion, Bear and I headed into Manhattan and central park. Birdie, Bum and everyone else were involved in brunches and the rehearsal so we decided to use the time to check out NY a bit. Due to the fact that we slept in too late we only had about half an hour to walk around the park. It wasn't anything like I pictured it, but still very neat to see, though I was bummed that the bridal party had a few hours in the afternoon that I could have hung out with DTBA. We had a very authentic NYC taxi cab ride back to Grand Central, complete with the driver honking and cursing while riding in the middle of the lane between two other taxis and nearly running over a pedestrian.

We got back to the hotel just in time to change and head down to the rehearsal dinner. I finally got to see DTBA which made me very happy, it was sad that she and Elbow were at a different table, but such as it is at weddings, we at least got to bounce around between tables and spend some time chatting before we sat down. After the rehearsal dinner we had the mandatory wedding crisis in which Birdie's dress ended up breaking its zipper. Thankfully with much help from Thelogan it was repaired.

Wedding morning we helped Birdie get all prettied up and Thelogan sewed the zipper to keep it from breaking again. Then those of us not in the bridal party rode in the shuttle to the wedding. The ceremony was quite beautiful and thankfully the rain held off just long enough. Then there was food...mass ammounts of food. Then dancing. Despite some health concerns the reception went splendidly. Afterwards people started loading up into cars to get back to the hotel and Bear and I were left behind, it bummed me out. Eventually the shuttle came back to get us and we went back to the hotel.

It was still early in the day but most were tired so we took some down time. Eventually people started to rouse so Bear, Minion and I started trying to get a group together to go play at Dave and Busters, however our proposal was shot down in favor of sitting in the hotel room and eating pizza. It was still hang out time with the people we'd come to see so we stayed and had pizza instead of going it alone. Bear bugged out of sitting in the hotel room and went to hang out with Bum. Then people started to drop off so hang out time ended. Minion and I were still very much awake so we went on a quest to find Bear and Bum, we walked the entire hotel and found the 3rd and 4th floor. Which...were on the same level as the 1st and 2nd floor, just in a different part of the building. I was amused at the junction between the 1st and 3rd floor where I could "climb 2 stories" in one step. We ran into the others who had been to tired to hang out anymore while walking around but they did not acknowledge us and we did not think it wise to shout much louder in the hallway as it was a hotel and past 10pm. Did make me feel like we'd been ditched a 2nd time though. Eventually we found Bear and Bum (they'd been in the fitness room...the one place we didn't think they would be) and the four of us went to the diner across the street for dessert. It was very nummy and we had a lot of fun.

The next day Bear and I were scheduled to leave after the brunch. Bear helped the others out by taking Elbow to the car rental place. However, we were all late leaving the hotel. When Bear and elbow got back Bear ducked into the bathroom and all the others left him and I. (ditched again!) Despite our GPS we got severly lost and ended up crossing a bridge that we were not supposed to cross, which made us both cross. Eventually we found the way to the brunch but we were both still irratable. Bum hung out with me on the porch, which was cool and we saw fish in the lake and lots of pictures of Devil and her brother as children. You gotta love embarassing old photos!

The plane back actually left about 15 minutes early, which doesn't make up for the first one being 4 hours delayed but it was still nice.

wedding, friends
