How do you do all the nifty LJ formatting? I mean, it's CSS, right? And if one is too lazy to learn CSS...is there some easy way of doing it?

You mean like bold and italics and those?

No, like background images and stuff...like, the actual layout and look of the whole journal.

Ahh, I'm sorry. I don't know anything about that.

Easy way: start with a basic layout. (I can get you one.) Then go to howto; click the website entitled "Tutorials." Adjust as needed?

It's actually pretty easy, if you wander around the customization section of the webpage. The actually coding is CSS, but they have a program for people who don't know any programming languages at all to set background colors, images, whether the background scrolls or is fixed, etc. You need to have a paid or early adopter account to do some things, but you can get a background picture real easily.

I've been wondering -- what's the difference between free and early adopter?

Early adopters are just people who started using livejournal before a certain date and therefore are allowed to use some services that were available back in the day. I don't know the details, but I bet it's in the FAQs.

That's kind of what I figured. Too bad I didn't clue in to LJ's joys long ago!
