Name: Cecily Rose Montgomery
Gender: Female
Date of birth: April 21st, 1979
Year: 6th
House: Hufflepuff
Blood status: Half-blood. Both parents are Wizards, but mother is Muggleborn.
Physical characteristics: Cecily is not a tall girl, clocking in at 5’3 and 3/4 inches. She likes to say she’s 5’4 because her sister is only 5’3. She has long dark hair which she usually wears in it’s naturally wavy state (she is adept with curling and straightening charms but usually likes the way it looks.) She has large brown eyes and a sweet smile. Cecy has never been a large girl, she has a tiny appetite and is fairly active. Greif has thinned her out further during the summer and while it is not yet cause for concern it wouldn’t be a bad thing if she put back on the 10-15 pounds she’s lost.
Cecy favours clothes of the sweet and girly varity, though she also values comfort. Jeans or a skirt with a cute top are the norm. She’s also partial to sundresses.
Background Information: Cecily Rose Montgomery is a 16 year old Hufflepuff. She has a fraternal twin sister, Lucy Anne and a four year old brother, John Gilbert or Jack. Of the two Montgomery sisters Cecily, or Cecy, is the more responsible and quiet of the two. She’d friendly, witty and entertaining but much more restrained than her drama queen twin.
A good way to the distinguish the difference in the sisters’ temperaments is to look at the way they behave when baby-sitting for little Jack. Both girls adore their little brother. However, Cecy is the one who cooks, arranges bath time, PJs and bedtime before reading him a story. Lucy, on the other foot, takes him on a daring adventures to the wild jungle... or behind the sofa. Both are caring, friendly, lovable older sisters, but fill a very distinct role. This is true in their lives outside of family as well.
Cecy’s mother, Delfina Alonza Montgomery (neé Vasquez-Vargas,) is from Spain and works at the Ministry in the Magical Transportation Department. The children are bilingual having grown-up speaking English and Spanish. The twins have been known to speak in Spanish when they don’t wish to be overheard in the Hufflepuff Common Room. Most of their mother’s family still live in Spain and they make frequent trips there to see them. Their father, Frederick, works at Gringotts. Both parents are magical, though Delfina is Muggleborn.
Cecily is an observer. She loves to sit quietly with a book and watch the people around her. She’s the type to know who strangers have crushes on before they know it themselves. When she doesn’t want to be noticed, she isn’t (and unlike Lucy she quite often doesn’t want to be noticed.) She’s also a very talented artist and draws many pictures of her friends and schoolmates. She wants to be an illustrator when she grows up. This is shocking to her family since she’s usually not given to more flighty ideas.
She loves forget-me-nots, waterfalls and Victorian novels. She’s a decent flier though she’s never tried out for the Quidditch team. Her cat, Merlin, is very naughty and causes his keeper a fair amount of anxiety when he decides her Potions notes would make a brilliant toy.
A common misconception about Cecy is that she is shy. While she does sometimes feel uncomfortable with people she doesn’t know or is intimidated by, she is not a meek person. When she feels comfortable she can be as loud, sparkling and entertaining as anyone. She is generally unafraid to voice her opinions (though things have been changing as you will see below.) She’s always enjoyed flirting with Nick Stebbins (double teaming him with Lucy especially,) though she is not actually romantically interested in him in the slightest. She is more introspective then her sister, yes, but she is in no way ignorable if she wants your attention.
During her fourth year Cecy became the girlfriend of Cedric Diggory. He was charming, popular, intelligent, kind, and a wonderful boyfriend. Cecy was surprised when Cedric admitted that he liked her as more than a friend because she had thought her feelings were one-sided. He was her first kiss, her first boyfriend and the first person she ever said ‘I love you’ to. They dated for six months before leaving for the summer. She and Lucy were heading to Spain for the season to visit their grandmother, and Ced was staying in England. They tried to stay in contact but-- as often happens with young people-- their Owls became less and less frequent as the summer progressed.
When they got back to school they decided together that it would be better if they were just friends, especially since he would be so busy with NEWTs and, later, the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Their friendship was a strong one, and she stayed up many nights talking to him about the tournament and-- to her secret pain-- his romance with Cho Chang. She loved being his friend but hoped, someday, they would be more than that again. And then, he never walked back out of the maze.
Cecy’s grief-- as you can imagine-- was all consuming. But, so used to being responsible, she pulled herself together as quickly as she could. The first few weeks were spent crying because there was not much else she COULD do. But after awhile she slowly crept back into her life, though never fully as herself. She spent her summer pretending that she was doing all right, that missing her friend was not the only thing she thought about. She laughed with her sister, talked with her parents, played with Jack... but her heart was never truly in it. Whenever she found herself alone she cried until she couldn’t cry anymore. She wakes up from dreams sobbing sometimes. Her appetite-- though never huge-- has subsided. She does not cook anymore though it was previously one of her favourite pastimes.
Those who know Cecy well will note that upon her return to Hogwarts there is something missing. She is still friendly, witty and kind to those she is close with. But there is a certain gregariousness and light that are missing. She will not discuss Cedric, the Tri-Wizard Tournament or the events of last year with anyone. If they’re brought up in conversation she quietly slips away. She believes, with passion, that Harry Potter is telling the truth about Lord Voldemort’s return but sees no reason why she should have to discuss it.
She is clever and a hard-worker. She’s taking NEWTs in Potions, Charms, History of Magic, Transfiguration and Ancient Runes. She generally does well in her studies, though receives the occasional stinking grade like the rest of us. Her worst subject is Potions (where she always did much better than Lucy, but that’s not saying much.)
Ideas for the character's involvement/contribution to the game: Cecily is yet another piece of the mourning Cedric puzzle. She provides a unique outlook on his death because she mourns him as much as anyone, but feels like she doesn’t have the right to flaunt it the way Cho Chang does. She was no longer his girlfriend. Her deeply felt belief that Lord Voldemort has returned is hidden for now. However, as the months pass and the situation at Hogwarts worsens even reasonable little Cecy will have to stop hiding and admit that something is very wrong.
