Leaving on a WestJet Plane

I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again

Well, actually I'm already back. My quick trip to Edmonton was pretty full - a meeting, some pro-bono promotional photos for someone starting a new business that I fully support, and an extended family session with two young kids and two great-grandparents that was entertaining to say the least. But I can't wait to move back there, all this travel is nuts.

I am sitting here in my privileged spot in the plane, having after years of discomfort and stubborn pride refused to ask for seatbelt extenders, today a flight attendant saw me struggling and offering me one.

I've been thinking about making a list of reasons to lose weight - motivation to take the time to use our new elliptical machine whenever I'm watching TV or to go for walks with Paul. It's a pretty big list, but most of it is the same - fitting. Fitting into booths, airline seats, between chairs at wedding receptions, in any chair with arms… Fitting into my old clothes that I like. There's other things for sure, but that's the place you notice. The daily struggle is to cram an active lifestyle into a busy life, but I feel like I am getting to the place where that can become a big priority again in spite of - and in some respects to further the cause of all the things I have on my plate these days that aren't food related…

For the first time in my life, I was seconds from missing a plane. Technically there was that one time I missed my flight completely, but that was totally getting the date wrong. I've gotten complacent, and when I saw that my flight was delayed I dawdled at the coffee shop. And forgot that I needed to get gas for the rental car (a zippy little Nissan Versa - recommended!) and a few other things that I had hours to do and kept putting off. I'm just kind of dragging these days. Too many flights, airports, too much walking and too much work. I'm exhausted and this poor decision-making stems right from that.

Bullets fly, split the sky
But that's alright sometimes sunlight
comes streaming through the holes

Fast forward a couple of days, and I have had some great relaxing times with the girl cousins on Paul's side of the family and a great time involving wax and pumpkins, wine and cheeses at Chantal's place - only to see the first snowfall on my car as I left late at night to go home. Winter is coming.

I've got a ton to do, so I won't say much more about life these days, except that I'm glad to be home for a few weeks. Paul's on vacation from work, something we planned a long time ago before I got this busy, so I can't really go on vacation with him… But I will spend some extra time with him anyway!
