So there were a few Japanese people on campus today, grateful and thankful and snapping photographs like their eyes were completely inadequate. Japanese people are cool, if easily recognizable and they really appreciated the site.
Today was a day of steady work at work. No complaints though, it was office work. Still have some of it to do tomorrow. Again, no complaints.
Last night I went to Waskesiu (for the first time ever) to see a movie and ride passenger in a sexy silver Hyundai sports car, but in the end, it wasn't the movie or the ride that mattered - it was the fact that the whole place gave me a very spooky Stepford Wives vibe. Everything was way too perfect, like eating pure sugar! It was just gross. I've got to go down there and take some photos sometime this summer so I can show you just how disgustingly perfect everything is. And the gardens in front of some of the stores, with too many flowers and a bunch of plastic bambi-like deer and 3/4 angled wooden buckets and perfect greek fountains in a 10 foot by 6 foot space. There's bad taste, and then there's bad taste within metres of North American utopian perfection just to show the perfection off.
Also, the movie theatre had the squickiest single bathroom I have ever been in. The main door locked, which led to a hallway with an empty, unclosable doorway that made it feel like someone was going to walk in. The toilet paper was so high on the wall I could barely reach it from a sitting position (and I'm 5'9 or maybe 10 with long arms). There were two paper towel dispensers on either side of the sink, one with a roll and one with the kleenex fold kind. It was bizarre. And it was like, half rose and half sea green color. Can't make this stuff up.
Anyway - Waskesiu = Place I Would Never Consider Vacationing At. At first glance all I can see is paradise for rich people who want a perfect world, without suffering or reality. There's a fine, fine line between willful ignorance and safety.
The only thing I didn't see was a white picket fence.
On the way home we nearly hit a bird, a bunny rabbit, and a deer or two or three. The deer was apparently retarded, as we slowed down and then as we were speeding up it darted in front of us and then doubled back. Sheesh. Also cool was the fog over the roadway and driving home in pitch blackness and tunnel vision talking about the supernatural. No really! Learned a bit about Cree beliefs.
Also, the same folks I went with last night - George and Molly - are probably going again tonight, and possibly to The Dark Knight or Kung Fu Panda. I could go for either, but Batman would be beyond awesome since I've been waiting to see it since the moment I stepped out of the theatre for Batman Begins. I even remember saying as I walked out, "I cannot wait for the sequel!" xD
