Green thumbs are actually black

Take your time is the way I rhyme gonna make you smile
When you realize that a guy my size might take a while
Just to try to figure out what all this is for

Basically the thing about this place is that things never turn out quite the way you planned them. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing all the time. Today, in fact, I was pretty happy about the tide of events turning. I was supposed to go in to Prince Albert to pick up random supplies today, but since we were trying to get the van windshield fixed and we can't get that done until tomorrow, I ended up going on a plant run today. I had a little trouble finding the nearby snug little greenhouse, but eventually I managed and I only got lost about four minutes on the entire trip. Granted that was on three separate occasions, but generally when I get lost it means I made the wrong decision on a "Do I turn left or right here" moment, and it doesn't often take me that long to recover and realize I'm going the wrong direction.

Anyway, I spent about an hour at the greenhouse picking out plants for our hanging baskets and pots, and herbs for our lovely stone-walled herb garden. Then I came back here, had a disgustingly awesome lunch of fries with mozzarella cheese, bacon bits, and ketchup, changed clothes and set to work. Tomorrow is supposed to be a really nice day again, so either before or after my Prince Albert run I'm going to do the herb garden. Today I did all the pots. Since I had the privilege of choosing the decorative plants I wanted, I got to pick my personal favourites. Bachelor buttons (Centaurea) are my very favourite, followed by fuschias, coleus (whose leaves are the coolest, even if they don't bloom), and pansies (which despite their negative nickname are beautiful flowers, which phrase I have also heard used as an expletive against men... heh.) So today I planted them in the perfectly sunny afternoon.

Anyway, so needless to say, each of those is a part of my the Kenderdine Campus garden which aside from a little leaf raking by a lackey, I have worked on solo up to this point. I bought myself a Gebera daisy as well, with my own money. I wanted a plant of my own out here, and I love red geberas - it's like a bloom of perfectly contained fire. I planted about eight pots today, as well as five rocks - for stepping stones so we can more efficiently use the herb garden. And tomorrow I will plant the garden proper, I think.

See this thumb? It has a slightly green tinge. I may or may not have enjoyed myself today. *whistles and looks askance* See, I basically never garden at home because I have other pursuits. Granted, I got paid to pick out my favourite flowers and arrange them today... But at home I'm not a big fan of gardening really. I guess I'm more not a fan of the maintenance of the garden, which thankfully I will also get paid to do out here. I need to put up a big sticky note about watering the plants or I won't think about it and I'll end up murdering a few of the poor suckers by neglect.

The one thing I can say with absolute surety about this job is that I'm going to walk out of here with some serious life skills that I never really needed to use before.
