I wrote this comment as a .txt while reading so there are very definite moments of OMG reactions and so on so I have no doubt that this comment will break the character limits (for which I apologise in advance). THIS WAS AMAZING OMG. OMG. SERIOUSLY. I spazzed at a friend via twitter while reading this and nearly broke something inside me flailing so much and trying not to shriek and joygasm all over the place (since I am staying with family and they would not appreciate it).

Ryo glowered at the other but didn't argue.
"Come on." Massu stood, crossing the distance between them and laying a hand on the small of Ryo's back, nudging him towards the bed. Funny, that his hands could be that gentle when he has such a pissy look on his face. Stubborn asshole.
"I'm fine."
"I'll be the judge of that."
Ryo sighed and took a seat on the edge of the bed, hoping he didn't look as slow and clumsy as he felt. He reached for the hem of his shirt, wincing as he drug it upwards. Even if he had broken something, there really wasn't a hell of a lot you could do with broken ribs. Besides, they didn't have the time or money to waste on a doctor. Besides, casts seriously fucked with your mobility.
"Stop." The bed dipped as Massu sat beside him, brushing Ryo's hands away as he took the hem of the other's shirt and pulled it upwards. Ryo lifted his arms and bit the inside of his lip, carefully avoiding meeting the other's eyes. He really hated it when Masuda was right. "Yeah, you seem fine."
"I am."
Ryo sank his teeth deeper into his lip as the other prodded at the bruises spreading up his side. The touch was gentle, but even that was enough to send fire shooting across his ribcage. He let out a soft puff of air and tried not to squirm.
"Nothing broken. Bad bruising, though. You'll have to go easy for a few days."
"Like hell. This job--"
"This job is over." Masuda's hand was on his elbow, gripping it carefully, the heat from his palm enough to make the air in the dingy little hotel room feel cold. "We'll take a couple of days off."
"We don't get days off."
"We're taking a couple of days off, Ryo."
Ryo made the mistake of meeting the other's eyes, the stubborness and worry there enough to make him still. He watched the other for a heartbeat before jerking his elbow out of his grasp, ignoring the pain that shot up and down his side at the sudden movement. "Two days, tops."
"Two days." Massu sighed, expression softening into a tired smile. "Now get some rest."

His smile faded abruptly when he remembered that when he got back to the hotel he would probably be the one Ryo was glaring daggers at. Or, worse yet, giving that sad, hopeless, guilty look that said he was just waiting for the other shoe to drop and Masuda to decide he wanted to leave.

It was like time froze for a moment, leaving Masuda stuck there in an unending moment, watching the professor try to struggle away from Ryo's hand while Ryo sneered in a way that was nothing like the Ryo that Masuda knew.

"What?" Ryo froze, his fingers grasping the hem of his shirt awkwardly. "No. Fuck off."
"Ryo." Massu didn't move from his position on the bed, but he gave Ryo a look that said he thought the other was being an idiot. Again. "That demon got in some good hits. I need to check and make sure your ribs aren't broken."
"I can tell if my own ribs are broken. Thanks."
"Yeah, and if they were would you do anything about it or would you try to ignore it like you did when you broke your wrist last year?"
Ryo glowered at the other but didn't argue.
"Come on." Massu stood, crossing the distance between them and laying a hand on the small of Ryo's back, nudging him towards the bed. Funny, that his hands could be that gentle when he has such a pissy look on his face. Stubborn asshole.
"I'm fine."
"I'll be the judge of that."
Ryo sighed and took a seat on the edge of the bed, hoping he didn't look as slow and clumsy as he felt. He reached for the hem of his shirt, wincing as he drug it upwards. Even if he had broken something, there really wasn't a hell of a lot you could do with broken ribs. Besides, they didn't have the time or money to waste on a doctor. Besides, casts seriously fucked with your mobility.
"Stop." The bed dipped as Massu sat beside him, brushing Ryo's hands away as he took the hem of the other's shirt and pulled it upwards. Ryo lifted his arms and bit the inside of his lip, carefully avoiding meeting the other's eyes. He really hated it when Masuda was right. "Yeah, you seem fine."
"I am."
Ryo sank his teeth deeper into his lip as the other prodded at the bruises spreading up his side. The touch was gentle, but even that was enough to send fire shooting across his ribcage. He let out a soft puff of air and tried not to squirm.
"Nothing broken. Bad bruising, though. You'll have to go easy for a few days."
"Like hell. This job--"
"This job is over." Masuda's hand was on his elbow, gripping it carefully, the heat from his palm enough to make the air in the dingy little hotel room feel cold. "We'll take a couple of days off."
"We don't get days off."
"We're taking a couple of days off, Ryo."
Ryo made the mistake of meeting the other's eyes, the stubborness and worry there enough to make him still. He watched the other for a heartbeat before jerking his elbow out of his grasp, ignoring the pain that shot up and down his side at the sudden movement. "Two days, tops."
"Two days." Massu sighed, expression softening into a tired smile. "Now get some rest."
