IT'S GREAT TO BE....

Wow... what a game. I'm going to call it The Choke and Soak at Doak. Ha. It poured the whole day. We got there around 9:30, and tailgated in the civic center parking lot. Around 11 AM, we started walking to the stadium, down a street with several fraternity houses. Those fans liked to taunt us... some 'Canes taunted back. I couldn't wait for kickoff. The field was a mess. We started off with 2 field goals... touchdowns would have been nice. But our defense was playing really well, so that was an encouraging sign. When it was 19-0 at the half, we saw some FSU fans leaving. During halftime, you could hear the loud cheers of "It's great to be a Miami Hurricane" in the concourse. Hard to tell we were the visitors. FSU finally scored about 10 minutes in to the 3rd quarter -- 22-7 at that point. Still, not too worried because our defense was just smothering them. With around 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter, we were within their 30 yard line or so, but fumbled, and turned it over. That started a long FSU drive, that took them all the way to Miami's 4 yard line... but we held them, and they turned it over on downs. More back and forth... we'd try to run down the clock, they'd keep shooting for the end zone, and turning it over on downs. FSU's final drive began with a minute to go, and they managed to score. Not that it really mattered at that point. 22-14 final. I think there was a total of 11 turnovers... lots of fumbles. Messy football. We were all soaked at the end.... but it was worth it.
