I don't want clever conversation
I never want to work that hard
I just want someone that I can talk to
I want you just the way you are.
-"Just the Way You Are"
I watched the season finale of "Chaotic" tonight. Ugh, the wedding was so trashy. And the world premiere of her new music video was tres lame. But BS did say something that wasn't bs... it was actually kind of cool. She wished people wished more, because you never know when the universe will send those wishes back to you. It was an interesting cosmic concept, even though I have no idea why it stuck with me.
In some respects, we have become more skeptical as the years have gone by.
Carrie puts it so well: When you're young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don't leap at all because there's not always someone there to catch you. And in life, there's no safety net.
We don't believe in fairy-tale endings, princes and princesses, luck and fate. We've abandoned every sense but sight in hopes that our eyes will confirm true "truth." Our quarters read "In God We Trust" but how many of us actually put our trust in God?
We SHOULD wish more, because you never know when a wish might come true. Sure, not all of us have a Jiminy Cricket, but let's not have that stop us from believing. Act as if ye have faith and faith shall be given to you...
...But much easier said than done. We hold our feelings because we're afraid of overexposure. We don't want to give what we don't receive back. We think it's safer but we end up missing out. Of course it's not wise to always speak your mind, but sometimes it ain't so bad. At some point, you get so fed up with shooting blanks that you just want to feel something (a little bit like "Crash"). That's when you learn to live in the moment, feel how you want to feel no matter how short-lived that feeling may be, and then you move on. Because you know it's not the first or last time you'll feel that way, and the next time it comes around, you won't be as afraid. But, be warned that it just gets so confusing after that.
