Journals being restored

May 31, 2007 12:10

As promised below we have reviewed the journals that have been suspended and are now in the midst of unsuspended about half of them.
The class of suspensions that are being reversed are;
1.     All Fandom journals
2.     All fiction journals
3.     All journals who that had problems in their profile only

A large number of journals that are clear ( Read more... )

The biggest problem overall, is that SixApart doesn't understand what the hell LJ is. Interests DO NOT MEAN we support/love/or even CARE ABOUT whatever it is we listed. A lot of people put in random items just to be funny. Sometimes people list things like WAR because they are into researching war and every other topic that comes along with it. Does that make them some sort of violent criminal? NO.

You need to learn about the 'community' you messed with. Doing that will help you make better decisions in the future. LJ's users, for the most part from what I have seen, and my flist is no small thing, don't care about new site (not journal) layouts, new interfaces, new features, MOO CARDS?, "automatic" transcriptions on phone posts, etc. I refuse to even use Horizon, although every time I try to switch it back, it loads Horizon if I close out of my browser.

We're not here for any of that. We're here to blog and to correspond with friends, honestly. I have made some of my very best friends on this service. I'm here for myself, my own personal enjoyment, NOT because LJ offers the best extra features. LJ's interface is cleaner than GJ and at the time I joined both, which was 2003, GJ was mainly for the free icon space, anyway. That is why I am here as opposed to the other sites running the code.

So take it from me, or don't, whatever. I'm just a user who has paid hundreds to this site over the last four years. You really, really need to actually familiarize yourself with this site. This is FAR more personal because it is a connection of BLOGS, not a connection of profiles in which people comment solely on pictures. We like it the way it IS, not the way you ENVISION it to be. That's why you have millions of journals. That's why fandoms flock here from other websites. Please understand that you can't just go around changing shit to suit YOUR fancy. You haven't BEEN HERE. You aren't ONE of us. You're a CEO of a company who obviously doesn't belong here and shouldn't have bought LiveJournal in the first place.

Interests =/= likes/supports, etc. They just don't. You can't change that after eight years of it NOT meaning that.

Remember that we are here, first and foremost, for the blogging. We're here for our friends. We're not here for you. Stop treating us like idiots.

Additionally, I highly dislike this portion of your 'apology' post:Another issue we needed to deal with was journals that used a thin veneer of fictional or academic interest in events and storylines that include child rape, pedophilia, and similar themes in order to actually promote these activities. While there are stories, essays, and discussions that include discussion of these issues in an effort to understand and prevent them, others use a pretext to promote these activities. It’s often very hard to tell the difference.
No, not it's not. There are disclaimers, rules, all sorts of information posted on most fiction journals/communities. And if this is going to lead to a censorship of raunchy fictional behavior in public entries (which I doubt it will, though I don't exactly trust you), you have really gone against what most people make use of LiveJournal for. Their creative endeavors. LJ is, arguably, one of the best forums for posting fan/original fiction. Journals are so much more personal than at places like fanfiction.net. It is quite easy to tell the difference between a community like sbrb_blackcest and one of the unsuspended "child lovers" here on LJ. (Also, incest ain't illegal when it's consensual. So please do not lump incest in with molestation, child predators and rape.) This is the forum I chose. I was here before you. I want to be respected.

Not everyone uses LJ just to update about their day. MANY fandomers and artists/authors/whatever use their LJs as a sort of portfolio. A collection of writing, art, maybe even songs, recipes, memories, photographs, the list goes on and on.

Yet another example of how SixApart needs to learn LJ or get out.

Well said. I think there needs to be some sort of fandom/SA summit, in which we explain all this to them, possibly using very small words.

Agreed. In all their talk of the community they 'want to build', they have somehow missed the fact that a community already exists here. If they've half a brain amongst them, they'll now take the time to (somewhat belatedly) learn about that community before they again attempt to alter it.
