I'm still having issues with .htaccess and images showing up on LJ.

It appears the domain name changes are messing things up - the 'exemptions' I had set (www.livejournal.com, balljar.livejournal.com, etc.) are no longer adequate. People are getting red X's on their friends page, but can see the images on the 'Post Comments' page.

This behaviour is also seen with voice posts.

use the wildcard character in front of the LJ domain and that should clear that up.

I've got that one in there, too...

Doesn't seem to help - and it doesn't explain the voice post issue.

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !livejournal.com(/)?.*$ [NC]

and i don't bother with voice posts.

The wildcard character didn't work for me. It just gave me '500' errors whenever I tried to access my site (no matter what the referer was).

I 'solved' the problem by allowing only uluviel.livejournal.com access, and posting all my images under lj-cuts, forcing other users to visit my journal to view them.

The voicepost issue is a separate issue -- it's happening because clicking through to the voicepost from your friends page doesn't set you the cookie that gives you access to your friend's protected content. They're working on resolving this, but in the meantime, the workaround is to visit the journal (or the comments page for that journal), and then listen to the voicepost.
