At long last, we're pleased to announce a new feature. Now, in journal and community entries, there's a button you can click to show the author you liked their entry.
I would much rather someone takes the time to write a proper answer, even if it's just 'cool post' than to spastically click the heart button. Because there's no thought involved in doing it, the feedback is, essentially, meaningless.

What do you mean? wicked_inque is my real name! LOL
Seriously though, I totally get what you're saying. The reason I'm here is because it's not Facebook. There still is dialogue between people, even if it is brief. (I really don't get the OP comment about short posts making them 'feel awkward'. I've never had a friend comment to me, and been like, 'Oh man...I wish they wouldn't have taken the time to say anything!'). I would much rather someone write even two words to me, than just click 'like'. At least I know whatever I wrote was actually read, and whoever didn't just breeze through and like everything that was new on their friends feed.
Hell, half the time, I think people click a 'like' button, just because people can't resist pushing a button. ~_^
Give it time, my friend. Soon, this is going to be 'LiveJournal, brought to you by Facebook'.

And they'll decide for us what we see in our feeds, as facebook does. Then of course there's the instagram debacle where I just need to delete that account cuz you can't sort the feed chronologically at all.
Tech sites don't listen to the user base. They just wanna all be the same.
Re: Totally agreemisstiaNovember 2 2016, 09:47:10 UTC
No I've never seen the replacement feed page. I always worry if I switch to the 'new' to see what it looks like, I won't be able to switch back!! That's horrible they're trying to do that!! People want to see what THEY want to see, not what some soulless computer decides!
RE: Re: Totally agreetabaquiNovember 2 2016, 14:25:42 UTC
I *have* seen it, and it is a horror. But if you use this url: http://your lj name.livejournal.com/friends you'll always see your friends page. I just have it bookmarked so i can click on it daily, totally avoiding the 'feed'.
I just sit here and shake my head when people make comments like, 'Well, people don't have time to leave a comment!' Mmhmm...sure. Because the time it takes to click the 'like' button, you can't write, 'Nice post'?
We're just perpetuating more and more mindless non-communication.
Not that anything we're saying here will make a difference. After all, there will be a few users who will laud the new feature, which the administrators will interpret as 'everyone loves it!' and it will stay... ~_^
Exactly my thoughts. Today, after noticing these hearts, I thought -- this will decrease the amount of meaningful comments replacing them with a completely unclear (at least to me) reaction, which, from my point of view, doesn't mean anything -- did you like the post, was it useful, was it funny or, maybe, awfully sad. What are you trying to say? Oh, sorry, that's the point -- you are not trying anything. Just pushing the button.
It is unclear. If someone says, 'i liked that'. I'm like, 'what did you like?'
If someone says something even as simple as 'lol', I can at least infer that they thought it was funny. Not stellar communication, but it's at least communication! ^_^
The problem is, people as a whole just can't resist the lure of pushing a big, shiny button... In that regard, we're little more than lab mice in a maze. ~_^ (Kind of sad when you think about it, eh? LOL)
Don't like.

They already try; see the Feed page which is trying to replace our beloved Friends page on any off chance.

If LiveJournal ever does that, sad to say, I'll be gone.
(It's bad enough that Facebook insists that I use my real name, which is why I don't ever post anything of real substance to it as a survivor of DV.)

...and then we'll be told 'too bad'.
Because, like Facebook, they're going to tell us what we should like! (And give us a nice, shiny heart button to do it with! ~_^ )
