We've got important updates for you this week. As promised, we've made significant changes to Facebook and Twitter Connect integration that respond to your privacy concerns. We're also saying goodbye to an old friend (TxtLJ) and introducing a community moderation enhancement. There's a lot of ground to cover today, so let's get started!

Don't breathe too easily. From what I'm hearing, the Cyrillic services thing applies to the commenter, not the poster. In other words, anybody commenting on your post who has Cyrillic services on can crosspost their comment if they want, even if the poster isn't using Cyrillic services.

Is there some way of verifying that easily?

It was tested before I left my comment by friends of mine, and I made sure that this was how it worked before I posted the comment.

[edit: by which I mean, although I didn't test it personally, I asked what happened to make sure it was clear before I posted this, and didn't post until I knew all the circumstances.]

That was my question--thanks for checking that.

Yes, this is still a big problem I want LJ to address.

Oh, and to answer your actual question: You can test it if you have two accounts and are willing to link one of them to Facebook/Twitter. The option to turn Cyrillic services on/off is at the bottom of http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?cat=display , headed "Cyrillic Services" with the checkbox being labelled "Opt me into services originally developed for the Cyrillic users".

...which is ONE of the reason why the fix is "still not good enough".

I'd like to be able to disable it for those that are commenting on my journal, but I'm only "Permanent" so they're not expecting more money out of me...

That's exactly what I'd like ... and my situation ...

me either. But I left anyway. IMO, this is unconscionable!

WeeWorld.... T_T *cringe*

Don't mind me, I've been working on stuff for them for the last 5 months or so and I'm about ready to be DONE!

I'm opted into Cyrillic services, and I just went around to a bunch of journals and hit reply, and it's not even giving me the option to cross-post the comment, so maybe they did fix it? It's still available on my journal, but not for any comments, for protected journals or otherwise.

I think one of the fixes in this release was that if you don't have your Twitter/Facebook account linked with LJ, you won't see the options. Do you have your accounts linked?

yep. That's how I read it too.

Without a journal-wide OPT OUT (which should, IMO, be OPT IN) this is no fix at all.

Seconded.

Why are the LJ folks having such a hard time understanding that a big chunk of their users DO NOT WANT THIS FEATURE ENABLED ON THEIR JOURNALS.
