Seriously, what? We already have an LJ messenger service; why do we need a locked-down new one that cannot communicate with the existing one?

That was my argument when they were talking about this in the development stage.

We already have an LJ IM service. LJtalk over XMPP/Jabber.

There is absolutely no need for a second IM service, largely duplicating the functionality of the first, especially when the two are incompatible services. Dumb idea.

In browser! Just like facebook! Don't you know, LJ has to keep up with every other social networking site now?

Yes! And Gmail does it too! USING JABBER.

But gmail isn't ZOMGSOCIALNETWORKING!

Hm. Right after I made my previous post, LJtalk suddenly decided that my password was invalid.

Curious coincidence.

Conspiracy!

And I just realized who I was replying to when I noticed the "name" on the comment email. I fail.

That's what happens when you randomly change your username. It's all your fault!

Wasn't really random, but I concede the point. (:

I almost put it in quotes. If it wasn't replied to, I could edit it, as this wonderful useful "new" feature post tells us I could.

And I am really annoyed by everything on the internet having a 'chat' ability. It is annoying! I did not ask for it. I am just thankful I can 'log out' of all of them. :/

Is it a coincidence that LJ-Talk seems to be dead at the moment?

Apparently they just rolled out a new LJtalk server which should render "chronic LJtalk downtime ... a thing of the past."
