The retitling usernames is all kinds of fun. :D

exampleusername

I recommend hovering over apparent lj user links lest you fall prey to something such as this innocent link to omg_a_surprise. (Uh, if you have epilepsy, don't visit the linked journal there.)

LOL that is hilarious! But how could that possibly be of any use to anyone? :P

...except as a deliberate lure to get you to go to a phoney counterfeit journal which you might not notice was the wrong one until after you'd said something embarassing there, or revealed personal info to the wrong person? =:o\

I cannot see *any* got coming of this stupid "feature", and *lots* of bad. (I also don't recall seeing it advertised or discussed at all before release, but then I have been pretty busy of late and may have just missed it.)

This is the stupidest thing I've seen LJ do for nearly a year. =}:o{

That's probably because it's been in use for over five years. It's not a new feature.

When I use it, I use it to talk about friends that people might not know by their usernames. "I went to the movies with zenostortoise last night," for example.

I don't find it particularly useful, but the world hasn't ended yet.

It's good for if you want to say a person's legitimate name or nickname instead of their username. I've been doing it for years with semagic and various online tools that also allow you to change the user image next to the name.

Ditto, only I've lost the link I had to the wonderful site that had all sorts of cute graphics to go in where the head'n'shoulders icon usually goes, so now I'm just sad. :(

That site? They've sorted all the different ones, but there's also an all icons option.
