As you'll see when you try it out, the new Explore LJ is designed specifically to help you find the things on LiveJournal that interest you.

Funny how it's always opt-out, rather than opt-in.

Yeah, you would think, after all of the complaints on the flagging and adult content etc issues, they would have learned: don't make the default something that screws us.

Honestly, I have no opinion on any of the actual "features." I just think it's pretty shitty to make anything opt-out by default. Not everyone on LJ reads News (well, they should, but after all the wank that happens I can see why you wouldn't want to).

and LJ still hasn't fixed the search system that excludes non-racist usage of terms that have been used by racists.

-1 x mega, LJ.

No, after all this, they've learned they can do what they like to their users, and their users will cling to them.

Yah, so the newbie who posted about buttsex and Heath Ledger in their journal, thinking it was only to themselves and a select few because there's no need to be friends-only, no one else knows I'm here yet can be mortified when it appears in the Entertainment area.

1) I'm glad they did just that. I'd be more in favor of an opt-in, but whatev.

2) Learning how to lj-cut your entries is hard when you don't know LJ (their FAQ isn't the most user-friendly thing). Knowing the benefits of friends-locks falls into that category. As does turning off spider access. And knowing about LJSeek (not an LJ property, I know). I'm talking newbie here.

"Everything you do on the Internet is public" is a valuable lesson to learn.
